HDI Mapping - mcglynn - 20-12-2013 Well guys, I had been in touch withh Jammapic (James) about mapping and the overall spec of his hdi. Ended up going for one of his maps on the car. Its a 306 hdi, fmic, boost controller and gauge, with a 2.25 straight through from turbo back. He initially sent me a map which would be on the standard clutchs limit so to speak, and it was just a bit much for my clutch (140k and probably original). He toned down the torque and due to no black smoke added some more fuelling up high in the rev range. Over the moon with the end product and would recommend his work. Car pulls smoothly and hard up in the top of the rev range and nice smooth pull from low in the range too. Hoping to get a clutch in the car, 1.6 sensor, r70 pump and a decent lift pump, then further the mapping come january time, as the cars due on the rollers early February all being well! Just thought id give you guys the heads up that he knows his stuff and is good to work with! RE: HDI Mapping - Kezzieboy - 20-12-2013 I wonder what method everyone uses to map these, as I'm currently in the process of mapping a mapped R6 bike engine for Formula Student, but that's live mapping on an engine dyno, so it's rather different. Hmmmmmmm. RE: HDI Mapping - mcglynn - 20-12-2013 If you have a look on the Internet you'll find out bud. With some quick searching I found out about the programs and joined a dedicated forum. Its not easy I dont understand it that in depth but I have an idea now. Just dont have the time to put the research in due to uni and other commitments. Its something I plan on doing evebtually though! RE: HDI Mapping - E_KEL95 - 20-12-2013 You should have checked out torquetronix from over here im yet to hear bad reports from them, hoping to get mines mapped with them in the new year.. RE: HDI Mapping - mcglynn - 20-12-2013 Well first off he's far too expensive and doesnt specialise in the hdi engine, and secondly he has tried to slander some of my friends in the mapping/tuning industry so ill stay well clear of wishart and his folks ![]() All the best with him though! RE: HDI Mapping - jammapic - 20-12-2013 Glad you are happy with it mate - as I said in our PM'd, you clutch can't handle much more than 200lbft - so that's where we are at. It's giving fuel (and you've got enough boost!) for a strong 150hp at the top end. I have a projected power / torque curve here on my PC which shows it's pretty gentle upto around 3k, then swells the torque up to around 4-4.5k where the clutch is getting a much easier time. Incidentally after lots of testing, I fuel there pretty hard up to and past 4k - that's fair to say right mcglynn? Also - I've put a hard cut limiter in right at the top, so you don't get that annoying "tailing off" - but still can't over rev it. Enjoy. JP RE: HDI Mapping - E_KEL95 - 20-12-2013 Each to there own i suppose, everyone will have there stories no matter who you go to lol Re: RE: HDI Mapping - mcglynn - 20-12-2013 (20-12-2013, 04:38 PM)jammapic Wrote: Glad you are happy with it mate - as I said in our PM'd, you clutch can't handle much more than 200lbft - so that's where we are at. Yeah it's got a strong pull throughout the higher rev range, as you say saving the clutch from being roasted! The back and forth communication/help has been great, couldnt ask for more! Dont seem to get that with local companies if im honest. Yeah e_kel Ive been in cars that have been mapped by wishart, they go well, but he was still behind the times on the MG scene, drilling the ecu out etc which doesnt need done these days. Cheers again JP, it's transformed the car! RE: HDI Mapping - Dicky - 22-12-2013 Fancy looking at maps for a ZR TD, JP? ![]() RE: HDI Mapping - mcglynn - 22-12-2013 Quick video of the cars limiter; http://youtu.be/9T5fXfPUTzY RE: HDI Mapping - Tom - 22-12-2013 Thats pretty awesome. RE: HDI Mapping - mcglynn - 22-12-2013 We have it set at 4.5k to eliminate the cars usual tail off in power and so as not to stress the hp/lp pump etc too much just yet. Edit: Thanks btw Tom RE: HDI Mapping - jammapic - 22-12-2013 Yeah, we've mapped in a hard cut at 4500rpm and fuel hard all the way up there... RE: HDI Mapping - jammapic - 22-12-2013 If anyone wants me to do them a map - happy to, just drop me a PM. I can probably work out most cars ![]() RE: HDI Mapping - rd070707 - 22-12-2013 Have to see this car in the flesh sometime, the limiter seems a good idea RE: HDI Mapping - mcglynn - 22-12-2013 Aye im in lisburn you're welcome to call and get a look at the setup so far. ![]() RE: HDI Mapping - rd070707 - 22-12-2013 Dont think il be up anytime soon, will probs see you at a meet in the new year though RE: HDI Mapping - Poodle - 23-12-2013 I like that limiter lol. Fair play JP, mapping is coming along nicely then. Reckon you could get a 30-70 in third vid up? RE: HDI Mapping - jammapic - 23-12-2013 Remember, this car is running very very low torque. The clutch is toast. It's lower than a stage 1 low down, but with around 160hp up top now... RE: HDI Mapping - mcglynn - 23-12-2013 Yeah it would be pointless as the cars characteristics are totally custom due to a fudged clutch. With a new clutch in the new year ill have more progress hopefully! RE: HDI Mapping - Piggy - 23-12-2013 That limiter sounds epic RE: HDI Mapping - mcglynn - 23-12-2013 Just so people know its a straight pipe 2.25" diameter from turbo back. ![]() RE: HDI Mapping - Piggy - 23-12-2013 2.25 is standard size bud RE: HDI Mapping - mcglynn - 23-12-2013 Yeah I know that. That's what size it is from turbo back, whereas standard exhaust is all crush bent and this is mandrel bends. Car doesnt suffer from needing a bigger exhaust if im honest as it spools quickly and is very free revving as it stands. Chances are HDi cars now arent on their original exhausts and can bet they won't even be 2.25 in most places. RE: HDI Mapping - Piggy - 23-12-2013 chances are on here most are at 2.5-3inch... but standard cars out there should still be 2.25" as that was standard fit, all be it, as you say, crushed bends RE: HDI Mapping - mcglynn - 23-12-2013 Yeah I know thats standard size, but the chances of the cars having original exhaust and not aftermarket standard exhausts are slim (due to rot etc) The aftermarket (standard still) exhaust on mine was as small as 1.8/1.9 inches in diameter in some places. Hopefully that makes more sense. RE: HDI Mapping - tigerstyle - 23-12-2013 (23-12-2013, 11:34 AM)mcglynn Wrote: Yeah I know thats standard size, but the chances of the cars having original exhaust and not aftermarket standard exhausts are slim (due to rot etc) Very much agree with this, the backbox on my estate was a pattern part, the crush bends were bad, but worse was the 'neck' they'd crimped into the pipe were it's welded to the can -it was tiny, 1.5" tiny, the whole exhaust getting pushed through that. As for most cars on here being 2.5-3" ? I very much doubt that. the % of people that go for a complete turbo back exhaust is pretty slim. RE: HDI Mapping - Midnightclub - 23-12-2013 ^^ This.. there's probably less than 15-20 people on here with a full 2.5"+ exhaust RE: HDI Mapping - Poodle - 23-12-2013 Piggys clearly post whoring again, ignore him. ![]() Thats why I wanted to see a 30-70, have always thought the usual stage 2 should be quicker if someone fuelled it up top properly so yours shouldn't be much different from a full fat whippy map. I'd still be interested to see the result, but don't worry if you'd rather not. RE: HDI Mapping - Piggy - 23-12-2013 my bad, assumed most did at mid/back box conversion, and most on stage 2s would have had uprated exhausts...and thats just the hdi lads |
