Not really a project.. - StealthSteve - 03-03-2012

But a convertion, over the next month or so I'm wanting to swap my Sedan's phase 1 front end for a phase 2, having the phase2 106 makes me appreciate the facelift of the 97's, so I want do it.

I understand I wont be able to fit a bonnet without getting bonnet strut mounts welded to the top of the front shocker housing, but at local scrappy prices it should cost ~£60 to do the full lot (lights/bonnet/grill etc), is there any reason I shouldn't attempt this?..

Re: Not really a project.. - 4WayDiablo - 04-03-2012

ph3 would be better Tongue

Re: Not really a project.. - hbomb1905 - 04-03-2012

Probably be easier ways of propping your bonnet up mate, bonnet prop off a ford or vauxhall would do and a bit of blu tak

You'll also need headlights, bumper, grille and slam panel, oh and indicator stalk

Keep a plank of wood in the car for the bonnet. And as phil says, ph3 the car Big Grin

You can buy bolt in ball joint type things for the gas struts. Just a case of drilling a hole and tapping it in. Job done!

This, nice and easy,

And the conversion its self is very easy, no reson you should have a problem, also you will need a ph2/3 slam pannel to allow the head lights to bolt in

Re: Not really a project.. - kingy - 04-03-2012

not many people go for the ph2. ph3 ftw.

Re: Not really a project.. - samass - 04-03-2012

i like ph2!

Re: Not really a project.. - StealthSteve - 06-03-2012

I'm unsure of the difference looks wise with ph2 Vs ph3?

I'm rooting for this look:

Front end wise, it seems that looks slimmer mid-body than mine.

Needed to be said again today Smile

Re: Not really a project.. - darrenjlobb - 06-03-2012

Why would you want to remove the best front end? (the ph1) Tongue

Re: Not really a project.. - Foxy-jim - 06-03-2012

Phase 3 is the way to go!

yeah, I suppose thats acceptable, hehe, but all the ph2 bashing is getting annoying! Surely its up to the person who owns the car and not everyone else though!

Re: Not really a project.. - ginge191 - 06-03-2012

phase 1 is pure win.. full stop...

just think - your driving along one day and some tard decides to smash your indicator - ME a phase 1 owned, heads to the scarptard, £5 later im fixed - YOU phase 2/3 douchebags have to repalce the ENTIRE unit..

All in all - phase 1's are cheaper, nuf said..

/closethread whistle

Not really a project.. - Matt - 06-03-2012

Is that really the only arguement for ph1 winning? Haha Tongue

Not really a project.. - Matt - 06-03-2012

I had a ph2, I flew the flag! But then sold it. As I had a small hamster powering the engine. And it was far too slow haha

Re: Not really a project.. - samass - 06-03-2012

Not really a project.. - Matt - 06-03-2012

Not really a project.. - Matt - 06-03-2012

I had a 1.6 in ph2 it was such much fail! Haha

Re: Not really a project.. - samass - 06-03-2012

Hah ahhh yes, that would be a lot of fail!

RE: Not really a project.. - StealthSteve - 24-06-2012

Just got an email about a reply to this thread; didn't realise it'd been so long!

I haven't swapped anything yet, but I have bought another car (corsa) to sell on for a profit which I'll use to fund the swapping.

At the moment the engines fubar'd - it died day after no ragging or anything, after a smooth drive (read the only time I've never exceeding a speed limit within reason) nI dropped a workmate off at his place and it died on the spot.

After throwing several spanners at the engine it still wasn't convinced to start again so I got it towed home and took the top end off, no damage to bores, pistons or gasket.

\Stumped.

(only been sat for 9 weeks now).Dodgy
(edit - no, I've read the email date wrong. FML. lol, well I dont get the difference between ph 2 & 3 but my local scrappies have no ph1's in so I need to change it.)

RE: Not really a project.. - cwspellowe - 24-06-2012

Matt don't forget your rallye was originally a phase 2. Obviously living in denial...
