Useful bits off a dead 306? - Andy! - 23-11-2013

This isn't an advert so no parts requests please, just after tips on what to remove I get time this weekend before the car goes to the scrappy next week. I'm not doing it for the money, just because I hate to think of 306 parts that people could use get crushed.

I am genuinely so out of touch with 306s these days that I am struggling to think what to take off. If you are breaking a car in a rush, what bits would you take off that people might need? It's a P1 1.6 with sports body so the front bumper is obvious, I think?

PS why no crying/sad smilie?

Pretty much the bumpers, 1.6 being a low specs there isnt really any parts to use as an "upgrade" for Dts which are the only parts that really sell well these days, seems to take for ever to sell replacement like for like parts now.

Thought so, f & r bumpers, gti boot trim? Got some spare cibie fogs somewhere too.

Really want to take the lock set out as i am taking the ign barrel out for my estate and don't want to have 2 keys but not sure i can be bothered with the messing.

Worth the effort of removing a rear beam? basic spec with small drums and no abs but no camber (annoyingly compared to my estate)

I wish I had planned this better as the gearbox is actually fine and I remember a lot of people having problems with MA boxes/diffs so someone could have come and got it for free if they remove it themselves. Or do not many 1.4/1.6s exist any more and those that break get scrapped?

Starter alternators pas pump gearbox if you'd like driveshafts. Generally just stuff that cost an ATM and leg to buy new.

Half tempted to take the rad out too as a spare for the OHs HDI as it will fit and hers is crumbling.

But tbh if her car goes wrong I am tempted to just scrap it. I need to service that this weekend, crap!

I think the PAS is a bit tired, seem to remember noises but might be worth it. Alternator will be a smaller ones won't it being a 1.6? Shafts - I used to collect them when I saw them cheap for spares! Shame these won't fit the HDIs as I only have one spare for them now.

Parts I usually keep when scrapping a car, bumpers, lights, useful engine spares (not sure what would be useful off a 1.6) wheels, decent panels if there are any like wings, doors, bootlid, bonnet etc

Interior parts are easy to sell to like center consoles, decent condition leather steering wheels, low milage clocks. If it has a fully functioning watertight sunroof, maybe worth dropping the entire cartridge out as a useful spare.

What colour is it btw?

Diablo IIRC.

switch's and relays and parts of the loom will sell as will the rad fans

RE: Useful bits off a dead 306? - silverzx - 23-11-2013

Speakers.

RE: Useful bits off a dead 306? - Andy! - 23-11-2013

Speakers? Actually I might do as my estate ones crackle! I need the radio too as I modded that one to take an ipod in (hacked the cassette wiring) and i gave my CD unit to the OH as we didn't have a code for her car radio.

Rad fans are knackered as I had to hack the loom due to water in the connector.
No sunroof
It is diablo.

Relays and switches - good call. Will rip out all the centre console and fuse box.
Has cyclones that need a refurb so they can go cheap.
Body panels are a bit knackered. Boot has a rust spot under the window, front wings are a bit tatty, as are doors thanks to people hitting them.

just popped in for some lunch now I am ready to fit the replacement beam to my estate. Been 11 years since I did a rear beam swap (that was my ZX). I opted to leave the chassis mounts on the boot floor and knock out the 2 bolts to separate it as I was swapping over the shock absorbers anyway and my beam mounts are decent. Fingers crossed this GTI beam is okay!

Yeah, forgot to take my speakers out before I scrapped a 1.9DT.

Then I learnt my 200SX has none.. /facepalm

If its diablo take the front end off (wings, bonnet slam panel grille, headlights etc) and I'm sure ozone will bite your hand off for the bits.

Otherwise there really isn't alot useful off a ph1 1.6. If you've got a DTurbo style interior people might want it.

RE: Useful bits off a dead 306? - Andy! - 23-11-2013

Bonnet is knackered, bent a bit and then the cat has been jumping off next doors roof onto it so 4 nice paw sized dents. Wings will go and check, I think one has a big dent from a shopping trolley.

Grill has seen better days too (hockey sick tabs snapped off).
