Bilstein B6 rear shocks GTi front brake setup - ArmzSC6 - 18-11-2013

Pics to follow shortly but I have a set of around 2 year old bilstein B6 rear shocks removed from my HDI estate that's now written off due to front end damage.
They were only on the car for a month max after I got them from a mates GTI-6 which they had been on for approx 15k miles.

Some corrosion to the top and bottom as these shocks always do but they still feel nice and tight and definitely an improvement over standard.

Am after £70 posted for these.

Also have a set of GTI-6 front callipers with good condition front discs and almost new ferrodo pads. Bleed nipples are nice and free so are the pistons and sliders.
Am after what I paid which is £70. The callipers are painted yellow but will want re doing really if I'm honest.

any budge on gti calipers?? I dont need discs or pads but need them posting.
I only paid £25 for my current ones!

I don't have a need for the discs or pads at all as my 6 runs 330mm brembos and my daily is now a Leon FR TDI would rather sell the lot as a set. Pads and discs new are £90ish from a factors so I don't think £70 with a pair of good callipers is a bad deal to be honest.

RE: Bilstein B6 rear shocks GTi front brake setup - Piggy - 22-11-2013

£90 for pads and discs Rofl

I got my Mintex pads for £21 and pair of discs for £18!

Your telling me 283mm gti6 discs are £9 each..... Are they made of cardboard or just pretend?

RE: Bilstein B6 rear shocks GTi front brake setup - Piggy - 24-11-2013

a quick search on fleebay and they can be had for £12 each...
but thats not considering a trade discount at a motor factors.
they are just rouns pieces of metal. its the pads that make a difference

Nope better ones aren't made of shite recycled steel that wears in a few thousand miles and is already lipped after one set of pads. GSF ECP SC's all quoted for their better brand of pads and discs and were all around £80-90 inc vat at trade price.
Anyways all sold now Big Grin

RE: Bilstein B6 rear shocks GTi front brake setup - Piggy - 17-12-2013

Well correct me then...
I got massively picked on, abused and talked down when I said the disc quality makes a difference in a thread a few months ago

RE: Bilstein B6 rear shocks GTi front brake setup - Grant - 17-12-2013

Last time a checked, motorsport teams didn't choose any disc due to them just being 'round bits of metal'. If that were the case I'm sure Delphi would be making a mint out of Formula 1.

RE: Bilstein B6 rear shocks GTi front brake setup - Piggy - 17-12-2013

Yes but last time I checked we aint all fitting ceramic or carbon discs to our 306s?

RE: Bilstein B6 rear shocks GTi front brake setup - Grant - 17-12-2013

People do. Depends what you are doing with your 306...

But there are different grades of steel. As said by the OP, some wear quicker than others. Cheaper ones will warp and crack with heat. Why would people be buying drilled and grooved discs also unless they had performance benefits. It sure ain't 'cos they look pretty.

RE: Bilstein B6 rear shocks GTi front brake setup - Piggy - 17-12-2013

I bet you it is.

I wouldnt touch a drilled disc if you paid me...seen more top end drilled/grooved discs crack and fail on track than good old motor factors standard types.

Best upgrade has always been pads for me

And who is running carbon discs on their 306?...woh!

OP also didnt say what make of discs they were to be fair

RE: Bilstein B6 rear shocks GTi front brake setup - Grant - 17-12-2013

Go read around the '6 forum of the 205 owners. There are plenty of people running bells with carbon-ceramic rotors on them.

Its fair enough to say pads have been the best upgrade for you, but saying 'discs are just a round bit of metal' is a bit of an ambiguous statement.

RE: Bilstein B6 rear shocks GTi front brake setup - Piggy - 18-12-2013

Are they round? Are they metal? Tongue Smile

There b4's Wink

What's the difference bud?

B4's are the softest, b6's abit stiffer, b8's stiffer still

Bilstein B6 rear shocks GTi front brake setup - ArmzSC6 - 18-12-2013

B4's are shite b6's are slightly stiffer than standard with much better rebound b8's are meant to be the same as b6 but designed for lowered cars so won't bottom out as easily.

People bight your hand off for them on the 6 forum hence sold!

RE: Bilstein B6 rear shocks GTi front brake setup - DazzaHDI - 18-12-2013

Arrrr ok sorry bud, so you sold them mate?

Bilstein B6 rear shocks GTi front brake setup - ArmzSC6 - 21-12-2013

Yup my mate bought an accident damaged 306 rallye that I'm rebuilding most of the suspension on for him and he wants me to put them on the car at the same time for him. Saves me posting etc as well Wink.
