Jons Wagon Thread. Questions will be asked (a lot) - Lego Jon - 14-11-2013

Right, guess I should get posting with my own little Project thread.

So, purchased this little beasty on 11-11-13.

She's got 205k on the clock. Half leather in OK condition, bodywork is ok condition with no obvious rust.

It's pouring boost like you wouldn't believe.
Is there a common weak point/s on the HDi?

Once thats fixed I'll look at mapping it, I'm looking for an mpg & power upgrade.

Brakes are the obvious first port of call is brakes. Are the stock calipers ok if I uprate the disks and pads.

What do you guys use/recommend?

I'm thinking that I'll lower it by 30mm as I want to keep it practical and functional but add my own touch to it.

Id like to add a boost gauge (not owned a turbo before so its just me being a child)

A few more pics and I guess that'll conclude this post.
All advice greatly recieved.

Looks pretty clean. Definately get a stage 1 map on before anything else.

RE: Jons Wagon Thread. Questions will be asked (a lot) - vlj - 14-11-2013

To be honest, you can grab GTi callipers (only the fronts can be upgraded anyway..) for an extra £30-50, and the difference over 266's is well worth it.. if you are going to be changing discs and pads, you might as well be changing the callipers over for the upgrade.

RE: Jons Wagon Thread. Questions will be asked (a lot) - Lego Jon - 14-11-2013

Oh really?
I didn't know that.
I'm guessing ebay is the place to look.
Also I'm looking for a single pass IC, what do you chaps recommend?
Does anyone on here do the stage 1?
Thanks

RE: Jons Wagon Thread. Questions will be asked (a lot) - vlj - 14-11-2013

Look for breaking threads on here, and general gti calliper sales - they come up all the time Smile
There's a guide in the guide section on intercoolers, a few in there that work well for the 306 in terms of size and port placement, but failing that and wanting something new and shiny, the generic ebay intercoolers will do for our application..

MrWhippy and ProSteve both do maps.

RE: Jons Wagon Thread. Questions will be asked (a lot) - Lego Jon - 14-11-2013

Excellent stuff.
I'll have a look about and eventually I'll get to the required 35 posts in the wanted sec.
:-)

What size IC is used, I'm looking on ebay but its a little confuddled by all the universal kits etc...
Any help greatly appreciated.

Welcome along.

If I were you, I'd simply lay off the idea of going for an intercooler for the time being. This forum is a wealth of knowledge and information so I'd suggest hang fire until you've had a good look around at the guides and project section. Enjoy the bus, they're epic motors!

RE: Jons Wagon Thread. Questions will be asked (a lot) - Lego Jon - 14-11-2013

I'm not saying don't do it, quite the opposite tbh. But it's worth looking around first, gain a bit of knowledge then you'll understand what you need and can do the whole lot a bit cheaper. Big Grin

Also, whats the little dial for under the mph?

RE: Jons Wagon Thread. Questions will be asked (a lot) - Chris_90 - 15-11-2013

under the mph thats your mileage with trip meter and spanner means it needs a service Wink If you mean under the rev gauge i believe its the oil level gauge but dont hold me to that.

RE: Jons Wagon Thread. Questions will be asked (a lot) - Lego Jon - 15-11-2013

Lmfao... yeah total cock up there.
Knobby quote of the day goes to me...
It's the oil gauge I was after lol.
Its just had one so I guess I need an obd2 to turn that off.

RE: Jons Wagon Thread. Questions will be asked (a lot) - me-tm - 15-11-2013

No, the spanner is easy to turn off.

You, uh... I can't quite remember. Hold down the trip meter button for 10 seconds then turn on the ignition, or something?

*scratches head*

Something like that. Somebody will correct me soon enough.

RE: Jons Wagon Thread. Questions will be asked (a lot) - Midnightclub - 15-11-2013

Ign off, hold down trip button, Ign on with button down for ten seconds, Ign off.. job done

RE: Jons Wagon Thread. Questions will be asked (a lot) - Lego Jon - 15-11-2013

Wicked. That's done the trick. :-)

RE: Jons Wagon Thread. Questions will be asked (a lot) - me-tm - 15-11-2013

When I went to buy my HDi estate the service light was on too. Seller had serviced it recently but didn't know how to turn it off. My dad was with me and he just did it right in front of us. Said he remembered it from his old Xsara Picasso HDi. lol

RE: Jons Wagon Thread. Questions will be asked (a lot) - Lego Jon - 15-11-2013

Ha ha. Well, I'll consider that as my first mod lmfao.

RE: Jons Wagon Thread. Questions will be asked (a lot) - Tom - 15-11-2013

Your suppose to service it first then turn off the spanner arent you? Undecided

RE: Jons Wagon Thread. Questions will be asked (a lot) - Lego Jon - 15-11-2013

Yup however it had a full service last week before I bought it. :-)

any proof of that? I'm always suspicious of that sort of service, I know I'd need a good incentive to service a car right before I sold it.

RE: Jons Wagon Thread. Questions will be asked (a lot) - Lego Jon - 15-11-2013

Yup the reciept. Lol.

RE: Jons Wagon Thread. Questions will be asked (a lot) - Lego Jon - 15-11-2013

RE: Jons Wagon Thread. Questions will be asked (a lot) - Tom - 15-11-2013

RE: Jons Wagon Thread. Questions will be asked (a lot) - Lego Jon - 15-11-2013

Can't bloody find it...

Also hes on the other side of the country so 60 delivered doesn't seem so bad.

RE: Jons Wagon Thread. Questions will be asked (a lot) - Poodle - 15-11-2013

Shouldn't need to search, just open the guide section and browse, there's only five pages or so. Smile

Dan wiltshire is selling a whole exhaust that would be ideal for you, just gone up in the parts section.
