Newbie, XUD ph1 bosch&t2 - nick000 - 04-11-2013 Hi. Newbie here with a pug306 phase1, XUD and T2. I have been reading up for a week or two on tuning and this afternoon I have begun to have a little play. Could someone pls confirm/advise if I am thinking along the right lines? I tweaked the max fuel screw until I had acceptable smoke on boost and adjusted the waste gate on the turbo before going for a spin. My boost gauge read 19-20 psi and the dash threw up a STOP light with red light on temp display and oil light on. I pulled over switched off and restarted and all good. Took it easy going home and felt the need to back off the tuning a bit so I reduced max fuel a tad. Hopped back in for a spin and got 17-18 psi and no dash lights. Does it sound as though I was pushing the limits at 19-20? would it have been better to reduce boost via Turbo rather than max fuel? I have no additional intercooler cooling as yet but will do before I up the boost again. Loving these engines btw! Thanks for your time, Nick Something else just occurred to me as I was driving home and dash lights came on again....temp gauge has never read over 90 and car seems to be running fine, dash lights were flickering and fading on and off and I did jet wash the engine bay at weekend so could well be elec/display issue with dash?... I am planning to reduce boost via waste gate on turbo at weekend. RE: Newbie, XUD ph1 bosch&t2 - Piggy - 04-11-2013 people run the t2s at 24/25psi with no issues...some at 30psi but thats just silly. sounds more electrical than boost problems RE: Newbie, XUD ph1 bosch&t2 - londondan86 - 04-11-2013 Boost will have nothing directly to do with the stop light, you can run 60 psi and still no lights. Sounds to me like as piggy said, you are wither having electrical problems or your new found power has had an adverse effect on engine temps. Check you are not overheating the car on a blast as it WILL kill these engines if they get hot for too long! RE: Newbie, XUD ph1 bosch&t2 - nick000 - 04-11-2013 Thanks fellas, much appreciated. Temp gauge has never been above 90 so hopefully not the issue. Fingers crossed it's elec and a coincidense it's started coming now I have been playing... Am I correct in thinking increasing/decreasing max fuel will also effect boost? Thanks again, Nick RE: Newbie, XUD ph1 bosch&t2 - londondan86 - 04-11-2013 Yes, as you add fuel it will raise the boost up until you come up against the wastegate. Aim for around 22psi on a T2 and keep adding fuel until you get a whisp of smoke on boost then back it off a touch on the max fuel. Dont forget to setup your LDA as well..... Thanks Matcheese - btw it's lda pin ground (not grinded) ... Another quick question if I may, what signs (other than complete meltdown) should I be looking out for to indicate I am pushing my tune too far? Would temp sensors on intercooler and oil temp help to keep an eye? It's running ok atm. Think I need to adjust timing a tad to help with cold starts & a max fuel resulting in a little too much smoke for my liking but I like the performance too! I havn't seen it reach 80 since I've had it (sorry typo stating 90 earlier!) but that bloody light keeps flickering... Will repost once I have sussed it, any other suggestions welcome Thanks again, Nick RE: Newbie, XUD ph1 bosch&t2 - Mattcheese31 - 05-11-2013 (05-11-2013, 07:29 PM)nick000 Wrote:(05-11-2013, 06:52 PM)Mattcheese31 Wrote:(05-11-2013, 02:00 PM)nick000 Wrote: Thanks Matcheese - btw it's lda pin ground (not grinded) ... thermostat needs changing then mate, should sit at just over 80 when up to temp . . RE: Newbie, XUD ph1 bosch&t2 - nick000 - 05-11-2013 1 x thermostat it is then! Checked levels and went out for a spirited drive this evening. After about 10 mins, on it came again. RE: Newbie, XUD ph1 bosch&t2 - nick000 - 05-11-2013 yep, not budged a bit since I did oil change last weekend.... RE: Newbie, XUD ph1 bosch&t2 - nick000 - 12-11-2013 Just to close this thread off - issue now resolved! Turned out to be water/damp in the oil pressure sensor connector. Removed connector and found small amount of water inside. Warmed up connector and sender with a hot air gun, then after hearing other sensor issues can set off the stop light I worked through those I could find/access easy enough with th same method. Oil pressure seemed to be only one with moisture in though. Have also since fitted an independant oil pressure gauge just to be sure should it happen again!. Just waiting for the sandwich plate to arrive. Thanks all for your input. Cheers Nick RE: Newbie, XUD ph1 bosch&t2 - Dave - 12-11-2013 Your pushing too far if your engine internals end up on the floor until then the xuds will take abuse without hindrance in some cases. |
