new to diesel tuning - Tonibruce - 11-09-2013 Hello all, bought a 306 dturbo to drive as a daily car but am really bored off standard power now, so have bought a 11mm pump from a member on here, from what I have read I need a td04 or t25 turbo, front mount intercooler, 2.5-3 inch exhaust to hopeully get around 180ish hp.. Anything else I need? How bad will it be on fuel with this set up? I'm not new to turbos as my other car is a civic vtec turbo running 373hp that I have built myself with gt30 turbo etc. Its just iv never tuned a diesel before so any advice is appreciated! RE: new to diesel tuning - Piggy - 11-09-2013 advice: read and search. All the info is on this site. have fun RE: new to diesel tuning - Tom - 11-09-2013 Standard Piggy reply lol. Get up some pics of the civic in "The Couch" Im sure alot of other members would like to see that Make sure you understand how the pump works before you start tinkering, you do need some kind of uprated turbo, but what you choose is upto you. RE: new to diesel tuning - underground375 - 11-09-2013 Most popular turbo would be the TD04, but from what ive seen these last few weeks or more is people experimenting with different brands and types of turbo on the DT. Id still go for the TD04, but ill wait till I find out with the plates made . RE: new to diesel tuning - Jonny81191 - 11-09-2013 It's fairly simple really. Add fuel until it coals, then add boost until it's clean. Repeat until it breaks something then upgrade or replace. Go through videos on youtube of 306s with different turbos and decide what you want. Dont listen to Piggy. RE: new to diesel tuning - ADV_93 - 13-09-2013 These engines are only bad on fuel if you thrash them tbh... Not even then, even beating the shit out of mine won't get it under 30mpg RE: new to diesel tuning - Tom - 13-09-2013 Haha i only get 30's in mine! Is it tuned at all? To be honest, i'll easily get between 180 and 200 miles from £20 if i'm careful and stay off boost and coal... But give it a thrash and that quickly drops to 50... new to diesel tuning - zx_volcane - 13-09-2013 11mm pump, 2.5 exhaust and a td04 would be perfect IMO Bolt on and reliable (ish) 180 bhp for peanuts Get cracking! Yeah it's stage one tuned to about 19psi, pretty mild. RE: new to diesel tuning - zx_volcane - 13-09-2013 Also +1 for ignoring Piggy, don't know when he became so intolerant to new peeps asking questions, plus doesn't always give accurate advice himself. 11mm + TD04 FTW ! RE: new to diesel tuning - Dan306DT - 29-09-2013 ....... RE: new to diesel tuning - ADV_93 - 11-10-2013 TD04's are a good place to go if you want MORE power, or a GT2052S or whatever turbo people are fitting to XUD's this week... But it costs a lot (may be a few hundred-£££, but it's still a lot) RE: new to diesel tuning - Paul_13 - 13-10-2013 (11-10-2013, 03:34 PM)ADV_93 Wrote: TD04's are a good place to go if you want MORE power, or a GT2052S or whatever turbo people are fitting to XUD's this week... RE: new to diesel tuning - Dave - 13-10-2013 I would still maintain that 11mm is not needed for decent power just a larger blower and a goved pump. As soon as I put an 11 pump on my motor it has always become unreliable. Isn't that basically what a map does to a HDi with a bigger turbo? RE: new to diesel tuning - Dave - 13-10-2013 Haha I stand corrected. The 11mm just allows more fuel overall, higher boost and gets the fuel in faster, wont necessarily spool the blower sooner it will more likely bog it. Or so i've been lead to believe... Thought it was down to the increase of fuel = increase in exhaust pressure = spooling of bigger turbs?! RE: new to diesel tuning - Dave - 13-10-2013 Lucas pump will if you open up the gov in it, in fact it would more likely respond better for top end (6k+) rpm if you can mod the gov properly because of how the pump works internally (info there for anyone interested). Increasing fuel does increase exhaust pressure but non more than what a 9mm is capable of. It will help it spool a tiny tiny bit more but nothing that's worth upgrading pumps for. RE: new to diesel tuning - Mattcheese31 - 13-10-2013 11mm just means you can cram more fuel in in a smaller injection space, if you run a maxxed out 9mm you'd have much higher EGT's i would have thought, i'm not going 11mm though personally . . RE: new to diesel tuning - Dave - 13-10-2013 You will have higher egts if your running more fuel on these things |
