Strut brace touching brake reservoir - Frosty - 30-08-2013
As titled really. I fitted an e-tech strut brace onto my D turbo which I did have on my S16 but on the D turbo it is touching the brake reservoir. I have got a gti6 MC fitted to my D turbo and the brake reservoir is about 30mm longer than the 1 on the S16. So I need to change the reservoir. Is it ok to just put another reservoir off another MC on?

Slackened the lock nuts and rotate the alloy bar forward mine just clears the cap

Or get rid of the etech and buy a decent quality brace that does what it is supposed to do.

no. but need to be made well and imo need to be adjustable to work well
steel doesnt mean strong. steel can flex...a lot

Im no expert on strut brace but I would say it looks decent quality!

Yep ill back it up.
Take an etech brace place one end on a hard floor and push down on the other , you can actually see it flex.
Do the same with something like a kd racing or sparco steel item and you won't get any flex at all.
Granted etech look nicer but as with most of there products they are overpriced and over rated. The only reason so many people have them is that halfords used to sell them so they were readily available to the masses

Ok fair enough but at the end of the day it's on a 306 so it's not massively for performance wise more for looks

Think that you need to learn to read!!
My first post was advice, I advised that they junked the one that doesn't perform very well and got one that's up to the job.
Cully you would be surprised how much of a difference a good steel brace makes.

to be honest it made quite a bit of difference on the estate when i fitted it on there but i didnt notice any difference on the Gti6
but i dont plan on changing it for a steel one
and you coment on the flex of an aluminium one compared to a steel one
that is not a fair test as it is strech and compression forces it is used to reduce not up and down movement

Yeah, im not gonna argue about it but....
He specifically asked about it touching the reservoir NOT about which is the best performing strut brace blah blah blah.
