XUD11 Morris Minor - trog34 - 29-07-2013

Hi all
Thought it time to post some photos of my project. I'm swapping an old turbocharged Fiat Twin cam for an XUD11 out of a Zantia as it will have more power and much better fuel economy.
just to give a flavour of as was (I built the teardrop for shows)
    Ripping out the old
    making a bit more space
    modified LDV Pilot gearbox
    fits nicely
    plenty of clearance
will 3 inches be enough ground clearance?
    bulkhead needs some more work
    getting a bit smoother
have been making up some new bonnet catches and fitting a new bonnet(last one had an argument with some bushes in the rain last year) and need to replace the electronic pump for a Bosch

This is Epic! Think it would be quality with a massive smoke stack up the back pouring out coal!

RE: XUD11 Morris Minor - padge - 29-07-2013

this will be awesome.

RE: XUD11 Morris Minor - silverzx - 29-07-2013

Wow, impressed!

It's going to skid! Big Grin Win!!

RE: XUD11 Morris Minor - Piggy - 29-07-2013

epic idea...that will go like stink!

RE: XUD11 Morris Minor - ozonehostile - 29-07-2013

RE: XUD11 Morris Minor - mikey b - 29-07-2013

I have a mark 2 escort and I was thinking about putting a xud9 lump wid big blower on it what's it like getting them rwd

RE: XUD11 Morris Minor - martyn92 - 29-07-2013

need the LDV gearbox and its not too tricky from there...I would think trans tunnel would need modding on the escort to accomodate it though.

That morris minor is guna be twisted in half with the torque!

escorts need trans tunnel modification for anything other than stock running gear, unless its an automatic shell but for obvious reasons auto shells are like rocking horse shit due to the popularity with the rally scene

Yep know about that I had a few lol and this one needs welding so was gonna go for a ford type 9 had ya cut tunnel
For that was on about the engine do you need different fly wheel for the spigot bearing or is there a hole in it for the ldv pilot gearbox was just thinking it would be pretty cool with a escort coaling up the road

RE: XUD11 Morris Minor - Grant - 30-07-2013

Haha this project is so win! Really looking forwards to seeing this progress Smile

The pilot has a spigot bearing which can be swapped for the bush in the end of the crank.

RE: XUD11 Morris Minor - ginge191 - 30-07-2013

im intrigued as to your background and why you chose the XUD lump?
Any previous derv experience?

RE: XUD11 Morris Minor - Dum-Dum - 30-07-2013

Great engine. Huge torque and will beat 60mpg on the motorway even in a heavy 306

The ease in making it rwd. And the fun to be had.with just a little modding to the pump etc. And ill be able to enjoy it twice as much as could with the twin cam. 23mpg towing the teardrop and then about half that when the lead foot kicks in. Didn't matter how I drove my passat or audi they still gave 45mpg average.

RE: XUD11 Morris Minor - Piggy - 30-07-2013

you will see very good mpg. and with a bosch dont forget you can go veggy

RE: XUD11 Morris Minor - Jonny81191 - 30-07-2013

Very nice Big Grin

Although I'd be trying to increase that ground clearance a bit..

RE: XUD11 Morris Minor - procta - 30-07-2013

mint!! that will shock a lot of people on the road! I read an article in classics monthly about someone dropping a derv in an old ford I think it was or an Austin. great engineering!

RE: XUD11 Morris Minor - CJ_Derv - 30-07-2013

dont go veggy why spend all the money on engine build etc and then skrimp on the important stuff

but looks an awesome project btw Big Grin

RE: XUD11 Morris Minor - darrenjlobb - 30-07-2013

Yep, this is win.....

Will be following this one for sure Smile

Re: XUD11 Morris Minor - THE_Liam - 30-07-2013

Awesome! Read a thread on Retro Rides about a 1.5 TUD engined Minor, but the guy made it FWD for some reason...

I have had some 5mm and 10mm thick washers made to go between the engine mount rubber bushes so will be raising the engine up a tad when it goes back in, easier than re-doing the mounts at the engine

RE: XUD11 Morris Minor - underground375 - 31-07-2013

People take pictures of the clearances of there front bumper, I reckon engine clearances is the way forward lol.

RE: XUD11 Morris Minor - Poodle - 31-07-2013

Great project, very original, look forward to seeing it come along. Smile
