Estate Car for Road Trip, Suggestions? - bigcheez2k3 - 21-07-2013 So, me and some friends had planned to go to Zante for our holiday this year, however due to complications it got booked late then they wanted more money from us the next day so we cancelled that. This left us with an issue, we were going 5th-12th August. Our new plan is a road trip to France then onto Cornwall for the Boardmasters Festival. I've been tasked with finding the car, already have a thread up in the wanted section, but due to the time limit I can't be restricting myself to just a 306 estate. Would like your suggestion on what would be good or what we should avoid. Requirements are that it seats at least 5 with room for luggage and camping stuff, and that it is diesel because we'll be doing a lot of mileage. Straight away I'm thinking stay away from anything Renault or with a DMF unless there is proof it's been changed. Or a old merc estate with the 2.5 diesel RE: Estate Car for Road Trip, Suggestions? - AdamInNi - 21-07-2013 You probably couldn't go too far wrong with something from the VW group. We had an Octavia Estate and it never let us down in the 10 years we had it. There was also plenty of space in it ![]() RE: Estate Car for Road Trip, Suggestions? - Scott - 21-07-2013 Ovlov estate for the win really! Had the 2.3 turbo engine in it with a mahoosive turbo and intercooler, welded diff and used to be absolutely awesome. Not fast but awsome and super drifty lol RE: Estate Car for Road Trip, Suggestions? - Ruan - 21-07-2013 Something big, sofa spec, turbocharged with working aircon... I was thinking of suggesting we all bung in £250 each so that gives us £1250 to work with incl insurance, but we'll just use a months worth of that. Plane tickets + hotel would've been around £300-350 each so it's about the same really after we've all bunged in for fuel. RE: Estate Car for Road Trip, Suggestions? - Connor - 21-07-2013 Though about renting one? Was £806 for an Insignia estate, the saloon/hatchback was only £374 I think and that's without adding on the premium because the 2 drivers are 22 and 24. Plus, we can sell whatever car we use when we're finished, hopefully. RE: Estate Car for Road Trip, Suggestions? - ozonehostile - 22-07-2013 405/406 estate, its the devil you know and can be picked up cheap, can repair most things with basic tool kit RE: Estate Car for Road Trip, Suggestions? - bigcheez2k3 - 25-07-2013 So we had a change of plan. No-one other than me had the money ready which is an issue especially when you only have 2 weeks to find a car. Mentioned this to my dad and surpsingly he offered me his car to do it in. So we've sorted temporary insurance and we're ready. With the insurance I couldn't get quoted as an electrical engineer which is what I'm doing but can as a computer technician, which I also am. Also, can get quoted as a bacon curer ![]() http://www.stdrivers.co.uk/forum/topic/34219-my-pride-and-joy/ 2.2 tdci, remap to 183bhp, full stainless, de-dpf and partial egr blank. Wanted to drive it for so long ![]() RE: Estate Car for Road Trip, Suggestions? - Poodle - 25-07-2013 Nice! I'd be terrified of something happening to it, not that you want to be reminded of that detail. ![]() |
