What could have caused this? - Check30 - 18-07-2013

So just took my timing cover off because of a wurrin noise and found the the belt had been rubbing against the cover and shredded the belt any idea how his could of happened?

f*cked tensioner or idler pulley I'd guess, best get that changed pretty sharpish...

have you taken anything else off yet...be a bad pulley or water pump I expect.

^^^ what they said. That belts ready to go bang any moment looking at the big split on it.

Yes there was that's how i cane across it that was a new belt.
changed the water pump and the tensioner.
Il get it changed tomorrow and check every thing over

Is the new tensioner fastened up correctly? When you put a new belt on obviously check for play in the tensioner and idler but check that the new belt tracks ok for a few mins with the cover off

Mine did this when the bearings went on the water pump.

Spent the last 5 hours out here couldn't even get the tentioner off so it will have to go to the garage Sad
