So I just started work on a BMW...... - darrenjlobb - 03-07-2013 So yeah, just towed a BMW back to my place after the guy said he has put 17 liters of water in and its all gone in no time, running like crap....yeah, can see where that went. lol! Entire block / head is full to the brim with it, so bad its purging into the inlet via the breather! RE: So I just started work on a BMW...... - THE_Liam - 03-07-2013 Holy mother of Batman! Re: So I just started work on a BMW...... - Eskiiboi - 04-07-2013 Who did you work for out of curiosity Piggy? Hereford FTW! RE: So I just started work on a BMW...... - ginge191 - 04-07-2013 Dang! Sure someone hasn't put a wedge between the head?! Re: So I just started work on a BMW...... - Puggie - 04-07-2013 If its a compact darren?you should be ok deffo get new head bolts tho mate (no brainier tbh) the problem is ally block and head they tend to strip the threads in the block. Luck of the draw sometimes mate RE: So I just started work on a BMW...... - Niall - 04-07-2013 Cracked head under the cam possibily. Apparently there is a waterway that runs under there and the castings can be quite poor RE: So I just started work on a BMW...... - darrenjlobb - 04-07-2013 Will probs just get a re man head / new bolts and gasket, depends what owners intentions are! As for how long its been driven, god knows...quite alot...just keeps filling it with water before each drive, and driving on, hence its just ufll of it / running out the sides, it really is a mess RE: So I just started work on a BMW...... - Piggy - 04-07-2013 (04-07-2013, 09:06 AM)Eskiiboi Wrote: Who did you work for out of curiosity Piggy? Hereford FTW! Can't be worse than Bradford surely? RE: So I just started work on a BMW...... - 306Puggy - 04-07-2013 Wow I never thought this could happen. So that's why you shouldn't drive with a busted head gasket even if you can prevent the engine from overheating by topping up the water. I never thought of anything like this ocuring from such an innocent act such as topping the water up. RE: So I just started work on a BMW...... - darrenjlobb - 04-07-2013 Found problem. Was removing head and found one bolt was missing, and after a bit of internet research id already discovered its common for the bolts to snap in the block, so wasnt suprised at all to find a bolt snapped below flush in the bottom end. Cue an evening of drilling / stud extracting, can only try, bmw piece of shit!! RE: So I just started work on a BMW...... - Niall - 04-07-2013 What a head bolt? Looking at the amount thats ended up there, it looks like there should be a 1" hole somewhere! |
