Welcome along mate. I think you have a fairly rare one there. You dont often see a ph1 cabby in china blue ThumbsUp

RE: Cabrio Phase 1 - Mattcheese31 - 26-06-2013

need to see the front ideally to know which phase it is, don't think China came on phase 1's though tbh . .Smile

Defo got phase 1 bumper and head lights matt

Also its a 8v so that would also suggest its a ph1

yep indeed, i know colours on cabbys are a bit squiffy sometimes, and 8v as you say is phase 1 . .Smile

It's defo got 8 valve. Just done cam belt. Just needs a lot of tidying up.
Are the grills the main difference between the phases?
Thanks guys

RE: Cabrio Phase 1 - puglove - 26-06-2013

Nop. The difference on the front end is

bonnet
grille
slam panel
lights
bumper
wings
light wiering

all cab be converted but you need to change it all idealy other wise it couse issues. Dosnt line up and looks a mess.

The only thing you can really get away with leaving is th wings

Cheers mate. That's great info. Gonna keep it original as I can.

RE: Cabrio Phase 1 - bholten - 26-06-2013

I had a cabby wish i kept it Sad
cosmos grey beautiful motor that was as for issues i had to look out for mainly roof related
  • electric windows need regular greasing they will work like a dream if you do
  • The rear plastic window is rather fragile so be warned ha ha but easily replaced just expensive
  • the arm that locks the bin lid if its oem will most likely break one year
spoox do a replacement part but needs shimming to fit properly and the locking tab on it needs a little fettling
  • The two arms that lift the rear of the roof check that for rust as both sides on mine snapped off Sad i fitted another roof in the end it was easier
  • Finally the buttons that lock the roof down just be gentle with them ha ha

Otherwise great car fun to drive and people still look with jealousy as you cruise with the roof down and they sweet in their box ... aaah good times

Cheers mate. Some awesome advice there. Changing the front window regulator this week when part arrives. Modified roof to manual as last owners ripped out most of the rams.

RE: Cabrio Phase 1 - bholten - 26-06-2013

ripped out the internals :O muppet
no problem mate keep an eye out on ebay sometimes there are some good bargins on there for rams pumps ecu
out of interest without the internals how do you keep the bin lid down when moving?

This was mine

Welcome

RE: Cabrio Phase 1 - Matt - 26-06-2013

Welcome along

RE: Cabrio Phase 1 - Nobbyellaway - 29-06-2013

At the mo I've welded a bar to cable mech. Which pulls it all down nicely. Winter project is to put missing rams back on and new hood.

Thanks for your friendly welcome everyone
