The post of the year goes to Darren!! lmao As said, definitely the best silver lining post ever Tongue

Well I had a shit night's sleep last night thinking about it all, but thankfully feel HEAPS better this morning for a bit of distance etc. I don't feel quite so shit anyway.

I want to get it home and inspect the damage already so I can just make the decision to keep it or scrap it for bits! Sad

Re: Ed's broken Diablo Ph3 GTi6 - vlj - 11-05-2012

Hopefully you can get it restored/find another! Sorry to see this.
Pre-crash it was beautiful, exactly the standard I would like to get mine to (which will never happen)

Cheers mate Smile Tbh it didn't look anything like it's best when I binned it; I hadn't had a chance to give it a proper clean yet since getting it back on the road. another reason why im so gutted I did it tbh Sad

You on the hunt for one then? I saw that one in Somerset with 17" oz ultraleggeras and a full s/s scorpion system on Ebay the other day; that went pretty cheap, but was relisted by the looks of it; could well be worth a look. the exhaust and alloys alone would be worth like £800+...

Yeah I've been on the hunt for a while - but now I really want one as my gf wants a KA and I simply won't let that happen, so she can have the dturbo for her commute to Brighton. I work like 5min walk from my house so don't need to drive to work.. Just at the weekend Smile

Re: Ed's broken Diablo Ph3 GTi6 - Pompey306mark - 11-05-2012

I was wondering why this had so many recent comments. Did not get a chance to click here until today.

You needed thos 4pots I showed you a few months back. Then you would have stopped and had no worries.

First buy for new car bigger brakes......................

Sorry to see this happen though, I would get it back check it over. Take all the nice bits. If the engines ok (which it should be) sell it and make a bit of money from the interior and panels maybe.
You can get a nice 6 now for well under £900. Add your nice bits sell the parts you take off. I think it wont cost that much in the end.

But Mark I actually locked up. My brakes worked perfectly in arresting the motion of the wheels. I'm not knocking you or trying to be sarcy at all, cause part of me does want some porno 4-pots, but they just aren't a neccessity imo; my brakes are fapping strong, and more than enough to pull me in under continuous abuse in the dry. The issue I had at the end of the day was an unfolding situation in front of me which I couldn't react fast enough to, combined with a very cold set of uber-summer tyres...

Cause was TPFT the insurance company didn't give a shit about it. They enquired where it was currently, I said at home, they were like ok fine. I asked, they don't need to see it or anything...

Not that im fussed, I couldn't care less what they think of it, and It makes it a helluva lot easier to either fix or break for parts, without the rigmarol of transporting it about and the paperwork to buy it back. The obvious downside being i get no money back off it, but then it's that sortof thing that'll ra*e my insurance up next year...

You're right re the price of gti's. I need to weigh my options up 1st tbh, as I'm currently not sure stretching to another immediately is the best plan. I'm gonna have a good prod around it this weekend to see whats salvageable, and if its worth saving, and will go from there Smile

I'm hoping it wont cost that much either!!! Tongue

Re: Ed's broken Diablo Ph3 GTi6 - Pompey306mark - 11-05-2012

I dont think it will. Its not like you need to pay for people to do the work for you. I am sure you can rope in a few members help to swap out the shiny bits and the stripping of your car. Then its just a case of selling all thats left in a good period of time, so you make your money back.

Re: Ed's broken Diablo Ph3 GTi6 - Niall - 11-05-2012

Better get down Costco ed and get a lot of bacon and bread!

Re: Ed's broken Diablo Ph3 GTi6 - Ruan - 11-05-2012

That's the worst comment I think I've ever seen...

Go into the back of someone with the wheels locking up - fit bigger brakes.

*facedesk*

Re: Ed's broken Diablo Ph3 GTi6 - Rippthrough - 11-05-2012

TPFT? Ouch!

I've always found my insurance was the same fully comp as TP anyway!

Re: Ed's broken Diablo Ph3 GTi6 - C.A.R. - 11-05-2012

Seriously there are a lot of people who are just as retarded. In the MX5 trophy (race series) a lot of the cars just run standard brake calipers with good pads as the cars are so light, have no ABS and a small contact patch, so they lock up real easy.

But obviously in the land of the dumb and ignorant, big = better.

Re: Ed's broken Diablo Ph3 GTi6 - Ed Doe - 11-05-2012

I have always maintained that if you are getting fade with gti brakes, there are no end of options. If you're very racy, Carbon-lorraine pads will be MORE than enough with standard discs for some pretty heavy track abuse from what I've been told... it's all down to the condition of the brake fluid, and the disc/pad combination if you ask me...

And Ripp fully comp was significantly more expensive; cant remember how much now, but enough to make me not bother. Specially as it's irrelevant; if I bin it and claim I pay for it anyway, and it's far easier not to have th hasle of buying it back etc.

Re: Ed's broken Diablo Ph3 GTi6 - Ed Doe - 11-05-2012

So I recovered it today...

some more pics of the damage;

Ed's broken Diablo Ph3 GTi6 - Matt - 11-05-2012

Take wing and bumper off then judge, doesn't look stupidly bad. Can be repaired I reckon Smile

Re: Ed's broken Diablo Ph3 GTi6 - Niall - 11-05-2012

Don't know if it's just me being a Ming but looks like there is a crease in the suspension turret?

Sorry to put a downer but I don't think it will be worth repairing.

FLOL!

That bloke is a complete tool! Hes one of the workers on the testpump team I run at work. Honestly, getting him to do something is actually the most stressful thing ever!

Re: Ed's broken Diablo Ph3 GTi6 - darrenjlobb - 11-05-2012

Looks like its just the upper part of the leg pushed down to me, the bottom / squaure section is the important bit, is it still flat / sqaure down there? like below abs pump etc?

That top bit can be put back in no time...
