No servo assist - martyn92 - 11-06-2013

My brake servo seems to have stopped working. I pulled up into the drive and seemed fine but after doing some intake pipe alterations I set off and now I have no servo Sad
I have checked the vacuum pipe and seems to be vacuum.
However the plastic piece thats connected to the servo spins around quite easily, could it be that? Also, when I was putting the engine back onto its mount i managed to jam a metal pipe against the back of the engine and servo but I cant see that damaging it ?

This plastic piece you mentioned, does the vacuum line connect to it? If so, this is a one way valve and it shouldn't spin around as easily as you said.........sounds to me like you've damaged it and you need a new one.

The metal pipe, is it the one that runs along the top of the engine and bolts to the intercooler?

IIRC that goes to the servo.

Its that piece that fits into the servo that had come out, pushed it back in an feels better than before ! Will inspect it properly soon to make sure it doesnt come out again

That's more than likely the issue then...that's the one way valve I mentioned in my earlier post. There's a rubber grommet in the servo that it fits into, make sure this is correctly fitted.

I had one of these fail on me a while back, if you do need a new one there readily available from Pug at about £20 each IIRC. There's two different types depending on which make of servo you have fitted.

It'll be a vac leak somewhere, if your getting it at the pump then listen along the line for where it's sucking in.

^this.......check both of the braided flexi pipes on the vac line between the pump and servo too.........the rubber inside the braid can split.
