Help ! - bik3rutz - 10-06-2013

Hello.

I have a big problem with my xud. I am running a 11mm head, gov mod, lda pin, k16 turbo from a Mercedes Atego @ 1.8 bar , 63mm exhaust, fmic , and I frequently have problems with the headgasket. I have skimmed the head , I mounted a new headgasket and after 30km blow out. I mention that the head gasket blow between headgasket and combustion chamber. I will put a picture for a better view.

I mention also that I increased combustion chamber holes. It is a bad ideea ?

Thank you..

RE: Help ! - Jonny81191 - 10-06-2013

What head studs are you using?

RE: Help ! - cwspellowe - 10-06-2013

More to the point, what smoke levels do you have on boost? I doubt the head's lifting at 1.8 bar, how many times has the head been skimmed? Can warp a head in 30km easily if EGT's are through the roof, do you have an EGT gauge?

RE: Help ! - bik3rutz - 10-06-2013

I used victor reinz ones...

haha missed the 1.8 bar bit lol

On boost almost no smoke. Yes, the head being skimmed every time. Also I change 2 or 3 heads...

RE: Help ! - cwspellowe - 10-06-2013

My thinking is 11mm's are smokey as hell, even with a massive blower it could be melting the head with the fuel delivered, especially if the timing's not set right too.

ALMOST no smoke? What EGT's do you have?

RE: Help ! - Jonny81191 - 10-06-2013

when you say "increased combustion chamber holes" I assume you mean you've bored out the block? By how much?

I was thinking he meant precups looking at the picture he posted

3 - 4 mm. If you give a look at the picture posted you will observe...

EGT's?

no ideea about EGT's...

RE: Help ! - cwspellowe - 11-06-2013

Brave man, k16 and 11mm with no idea whatsoever about your egt's.

Buy a gauge and try again. Every possibility you're melting things. I melted a head just by idling with no coolant, took about 60 seconds to warp it?

RE: Help ! - Piggy - 11-06-2013

what headgaskets you using??!

30km of hard use of 11mm and a k16 dont sound toooo bad to me!

But then I would expect it to go even sooner!

RE: Help ! - Ruan - 11-06-2013

Remember I was lifting my cylinder head at 20-22lbs of boost...

If the engine is working well at lower RPMs, I'll put money on you stretching the head studs.

RE: Help ! - Tom - 11-06-2013

Think this chap might be on about 30 kilometers not 30 thousand miles as some are thinking.

RE: Help ! - bik3rutz - 11-06-2013

I used Reinz , Ajusa and Elring headgaskets. I think Ruan is right, the problem could be the head studs , because at lower rpms the engine working well. Can someone recommend me something else ? Also , has anyone a link with some arp headstuds for td ?

The setup is not poor, I do not have any problems with the turbo, the engine temperature is working correctly and I am running with an oil cooler.

RE: Help ! - SonnyRoby - 11-06-2013

As i told you try ARP studs with spacers.

RE: Help ! - Dave - 11-06-2013

lets see a close up of the pre-cups, i've opened mine up but looks to be nothing like the size you've done yours!

I made a mistake with this precups, but I have another ones and I will change them...

Fine, but you're running a big turbo and pump with no idea on egt's. You're a brave man, personally id hate not knowing whats happening back there with those mods.

Just a suggestion, unless you monitor them you dont know whats happening, even if you ARE getting normal oil temps. End of the day you're blowing gaskets left right and centre, so something's not right. For the sake of £25 wouldnt you want to know?

RE: Help ! - SonnyRoby - 15-06-2013

Chris, why is egt so important when the engine it self is runing cool? Oil cooler and everything and temps don't go over 90 after some long period of flooring. He is very careful with the temps and starts the fans earlier. There is no smoke on boost. FMIC and 11mm on a big turbo.

Head beeing lifted? Is the presure that lifts the head or the big volume of air? What ARP studs should he buy? Were close friends and that's why i'm asking. High EGT's burn turbos and makes the engine run hot. Corect? The engine sits nice and cold so don't see why EGT's should be a problem.

Can somebody please tell me what ARP studs to buy. Saw recently some ARPs on a XUD with no spacers.

I was only suggesting it because the bigger pump and turbo combo have the potential to generate a lot of heat, which can cause hot spotting of the head, and given the fact it's alloy it won't take a lot to warp it. Personally I'd never run anything over stock without an EGT after seeing how high they can get...

RE: Help ! - SonnyRoby - 16-06-2013

The car is now at the first national drag racing event. It looks like the head studs came loose. The head beeing lifted could be the problem of the headgaskets been burnt. The only solution will remain ARP studs. And please a link or something where we can order some studs.

RE: Help ! - Anton - 16-06-2013

I'm not surprised you are lifting the head. Haven't commented because its already been mentioned.

In regards to the head studs, there are NO stock studs available for PSA XUD fitment. However some people have found some that fit direct from another vehicle but its being kept a secret as it took months of research...

RE: Help ! - SonnyRoby - 16-06-2013

TU5 studs with spacers?

RE: Help ! - bik3rutz - 17-06-2013

Does anyone have ARP studs for sale here on the forum ?
