RE: MG ZR: Cams & Maps - procta - 26-08-2015 I don't think mine is running all that well either, as the MPI fan system keeps coming on, so think the sensor is on the blink. As my Spi fan system comes on 1st. RE: MG ZR: Cams & Maps - Piggy - 26-08-2015 Surely your headbolts are about far stretched by now?! We're looking for a house with a garage at the moment so this can be taken off the road and done properly. Motivation is also at an all time low, looking at a brand new 4-2-1 manifold on the floor right now and not excited to fit it in the slightest. Want to be out driving this or building it properly instead of dicking about in a crappy car park every weekend (26-08-2015, 08:06 PM)procta Wrote: I don't think mine is running all that well either, as the MPI fan system keeps coming on, so think the sensor is on the blink. Bought a new set as wanted this done right but meh now RE: MG ZR: Cams & Maps - procta - 27-08-2015 I recon it could be, I know one of the oil stem steels are away. RE: MG ZR: Cams & Maps - lolsteve - 01-09-2015 Well it's alive Left it alone for about half a week so before doing anything I turned it over to check that no coolant had leaked into the cylinders so i wouldn't bend a valve. Being smart n that, no problems there Put it all back together bar the alternator/pas belts incase it had to come back. Cranked over a few times without coilpacks on to get oil flowing as it had been sat. No oil/coolant leaks. Started up and it ran. Interior fans blowing hot so hopefully no air in system. bit of smoke from exhaust manifold but could have been burning something off. giving it a rest now as its been a long day after travelling up from Southampton https://www.youtube.com/embed/RTiqC0v4svI RE: MG ZR: Cams & Maps - procta - 01-09-2015 good news! RE: MG ZR: Cams & Maps - Jonny81191 - 01-09-2015 You do realise the only way this will beat a '6 is if you drop the diesel lump in it? That too.. Or buy a '6 and put some mild cams in. That'll beat a stock '6. /floggingadeadhorse RE: MG ZR: Cams & Maps - procta - 01-09-2015 (01-09-2015, 09:10 PM)Jonny81191 Wrote:(01-09-2015, 09:04 PM)procta Wrote:(01-09-2015, 08:36 PM)Jonny81191 Wrote: You do realise the only way this will beat a '6 is if you drop the diesel lump in it? or he could swop loose a lot of weight out of that posh rover, but then again, i would say f*ck it and super charge a 6! Sold a mate some SDi injectors because apparently they were going to be the bees knees in tuning his diesel mg zr... still gets blown by my other mates stage 1+ HDi RE: MG ZR: Cams & Maps - lolsteve - 02-09-2015 The more you say it won't do it the lighter my bank account becomes with me trying to prove you wrong Besides I like the K series, it's easy enough for me to work on despite my lack of mechanical skill Dont know much about the l series but i think they have MAF issues so perhaps if he gets it mapped out or replaced it'll be a more even battle RE: MG ZR: Cams & Maps - Matt-Rallye - 02-09-2015 He has the same determination as you, his 160 does go well just not as well as my rallye His T series powered beast is another animal altogether despite serious driveshaft shredding issues RE: MG ZR: Cams & Maps - RetroPug - 02-09-2015 Has anyone actually got any 1/4mile times for 306 dervs? RE: MG ZR: Cams & Maps - Poodle - 09-09-2015 Dum-dum reported some quarter mile times back in the day, around the 14 second mark iirc. RE: MG ZR: Cams & Maps - Piggy - 09-09-2015 That would be about right I think... 1150kg, 167bhp... About 14seconds would seem right RE: MG ZR: Cams & Maps - Matt-Rallye - 09-09-2015 (09-09-2015, 02:16 PM)Piggy Wrote: That would be about right I think... Your joking right? 14 seconds is throttle bodied lightweight 106 gti territory. My friends mk1 fiesta weighing in at around 800kgs and with 170bhp on tap with diff etc (cover car last months fast ford mag if anyones interested) which is built for the strip and running slicks pulled a 13.9 and thats damn fast! RE: MG ZR: Cams & Maps - Midnightclub - 09-09-2015 Those drag runs were done in his black HDi too IIRC, not a GTi6 RE: MG ZR: Cams & Maps - welshpug - 09-09-2015 (09-09-2015, 03:02 PM)Matt-Rallye Wrote: 14 seconds is throttle bodied lightweight 106 gti territory. naah, I've seen an S1 rallye pull 12.7, only had 199 bhp, still road legal. RE: MG ZR: Cams & Maps - lolsteve - 10-09-2015 Stock(ish) 160s are apparently doing about 15.5 ..in case anyone was interested RE: MG ZR: Cams & Maps - Matt-Rallye - 10-09-2015 Thats quite respectable tbh. I would expect the same from a gti6 RE: MG ZR: Cams & Maps - Piggy - 10-09-2015 (09-09-2015, 03:02 PM)Matt-Rallye Wrote:(09-09-2015, 02:16 PM)Piggy Wrote: That would be about right I think... You're dead right, I got my kg to lb wrong. Redid the calculation, 15.1/15.2seconds. I thought 14 was a bit quick. RE: MG ZR: Cams & Maps - Matt-Rallye - 10-09-2015 Utter bollocks sorry piglet, look also at the gearing on a hdi box. Simply no way your gonna be in the 15's unless its some mental stage 3 build. RE: MG ZR: Cams & Maps - welshpug - 10-09-2015 not enough RPM and too many gearshiftings, though that 106 I mentioned was crossing the line at about 115 in 5th near the limiter dog box ftw. RE: MG ZR: Cams & Maps - Anton - 10-09-2015 Dum-Dum did 14.8 i believe at Santa Pod. His old stage 2 hdi. RE: MG ZR: Cams & Maps - ADV_93 - 10-09-2015 Toretto would do a 1/4 mile in a HDi in 14 RE: MG ZR: Cams & Maps - lolsteve - 15-09-2015 So fallen in love with this again after a few months of slowly disliking it more and more due to this and that Being the passenger while it was driven by someone else showed me that it's alot more capable than I thought it to be and taught me a bit more on how to possibly drive it more effectively For example at castle combe I'm spending most of my time in 2nd gear especially on corners as I would over brake and think i needed to be hitting the high notes for the power band which often left me bouncing the limiter in a very vtec fashion Now I've been reading up about left foot braking/trail braking and tried out holding out in 3rd gear on a nice country road whilst carrying the speed more. Luckily for me this weekend is a small track day so can practise some stuff / try and get out of the second gear hogging habit Since I've also fallen for it I'm going to work on getting it more presentable. First a couple of shiny bits such as red 8mm ignition leads and a rear tow hoop thing (so jdm) next up is getting the body work fixed i.e no scratch or rust . Still need to fit the new janspeed manifold and sports cat which might release a couple more ponies 16/09/15: Just been looking into the camshaft/mapping stuff during my lunch break and thought i'd upload some details with some maths (vvc start with full duration is taken from someones measuring as couldnt find a official figure) Stock exhaust camshaft duration = 51+21+180 = 252 Piper camshaft duration = 62+22+180 = 264 Exhaust cam duration increase = 12 degrees RE: MG ZR: Cams & Maps - jammapic - 22-09-2015 This thing is a beast... I love it. People will mock you, ignore it... Such a hoot to drive - just needs softer springs and smaller wheels :-) |
