Extracting snapped wheel bolts? - Pete - 27-05-2013 Went to investigate a very poorly sounding wheel bearing on the Coupe today, Found one of the wheel bolts had snapped and another snapped when I tried to get the wheel off. Bugger. Any tools/techniques to getting the remaining thread out of the hub? Or is it a new hub job? Cheers, Pete RE: Extracting snapped wheel bolts? - Niall - 27-05-2013 Is there any thread left sticking out or is it snapped flush? You could try grinding a flat line in it, heating it till glowing then using a flat head to try and turn it out. If not, drill it out then try and extractor or a reverse drill bit. RE: Extracting snapped wheel bolts? - Pete - 27-05-2013 Snapped well into the hub Nail, Gonna have to drill it out methinks! Not even tried the other wheels I daren't lol RE: Extracting snapped wheel bolts? - Niall - 27-05-2013 are the hubs the same as 306 ones where you could thread it through and out the other side? If so, drill it, out with a big bit and it may just grip enough to push it out of the back. Get some heat on it and hopefully that will help a bit. Extracting snapped wheel bolts? - Sambarker - 27-05-2013 Try taking disc off might give you bit more access to get to bolt If it was mine id be getting a new hub. Especially if it needs a bearing aswell RE: Extracting snapped wheel bolts? - ConorTRG - 27-05-2013 Saying as it needs a wheel bearing take the stub out, you'll probably be fit to get an extractor on the back of the studs and screw them out, you could also drill out the stud as big as you can go without taking the threads out, and finish it of with a tap, 306 has and odd thread size though iirc. RE: Extracting snapped wheel bolts? - gareth7 - 28-05-2013 stud extractor Pete, works every time RE: Extracting snapped wheel bolts? - Pete - 28-05-2013 Cheers chaps, looked on ebay and I can get a another hub for £30 off a breaker so reckon that'll be worth a punt...especially when the bearings knackered anyway? RE: Extracting snapped wheel bolts? - darrenjlobb - 28-05-2013 If wheel bearing is shagged, then change the hub given its got to come off anyway to change the hub, that said, id still press a new bearing into another hub so i knew it was good to go, but you should be ok with another hub as is. RE: Extracting snapped wheel bolts? - Ruan - 28-05-2013 Press the bearing out and just buy a new hub face, they're really not that expensive!! RE: Extracting snapped wheel bolts? - darrenjlobb - 28-05-2013 lol no, but id predict a second hand hub with face would be the same money, and if hes not gunna change the bearing, then the easiest option heh RE: Extracting snapped wheel bolts? - Pete - 28-05-2013 TBH I just want it half decent so I can get rid It's a great car but I've not bonded with it. |
