1.6 auto squeel - ginge191 - 22-05-2013
Slight problem with a 1.6 automatic.
On startup, occasional squeal, like a dodgy VAG starter motor but louder.
And again when "changing gear" : reverse, park or neutral shifting.
Any ideas? My bet is the starter motor but the gear change, would this also affect it?

It's a 1.6 Auto.....I'd say that was the biggest problem with it!
Surely it's just a squealy belt or pulley or something though? As you say the starter wouldn't be affected by gearchanges.

But revving the car doesn't have the same affect ?

Not even under load? Although loading an auto is difficult I guess as it'd just drop down.
