Project Truck Turbo MkII, gathering dust - ozonehostile - 19-05-2013

ok then, ive been quiet on the projects section for a while now, reason being as some of you may already know, plans have been coming together to rebuild the truck turbo.

Il be sad to see the death of the original bianca 5 door, but it served its purpose well as the original test fixture for the build and led me to meeting some of you fine people Smile

So as of today, here is the base for truck tub MkII

1997 black 3 door, non sunroof shell
DHX xantia engine, 130 something thousand miles, unsprung paddle clutch

That's about all the spec you need to know for now as almost everything will be changed over the next few weeks with some parts off the original car and others from the vast horde of shinies i've been gathering for the last 6 months

and here it is all settled into its new home, i cant tell you all how good it feels to have a proper project on the go again

watch this space, epic win coming soon ninja

I have bought it many gifts

RE: Project Truck Turbo MkII - Ricky - 19-05-2013

It's just strange seeing someone else driving it away! But like I said, look forward to progress Smile

RE: Project Truck Turbo MkII - Dave26 - 19-05-2013

aiming to do the entire reshell in record time, the 2 hour drive reminded me how much i miss boost and epic handling.

i know what you were talking about with the strange feel of the car in a corner now, the front end almost feels too light and wanders while the rear end holds on perfectly

RE: Project Truck Turbo MkII - Ricky - 19-05-2013

Yeah, think it's either the springs, maybe knackered dampers or P bushes.

RE: Project Truck Turbo MkII - Jimbo - 19-05-2013

What's happening with the gt20 Ricky?

RE: Project Truck Turbo MkII - Ricky - 19-05-2013

Probably be sold, doubt I will use it.

RE: Project Truck Turbo MkII - ozonehostile - 19-05-2013

i was quite impressed with the gt20 driving home, really punchy turbo with almost instant power delivery

RE: Project Truck Turbo MkII - Anton - 19-05-2013

Is the GT20 still on this??

RE: Project Truck Turbo MkII - Ricky - 19-05-2013

What boost was it running? I can't remember. Plus I am sure it's got a small leak somewhere.

Yeah but I am having it back, kept it complete so it could be driven away.

RE: Project Truck Turbo MkII - ozonehostile - 19-05-2013

was peaking at about 22 psi, pretty sure theres a boost leak somewhere like you said ricky, hazes on full boost and there pressure drops slightly. nothing major though.

going to have to get my head around the rev counter issue, i cant be dealing with that lol

RE: Project Truck Turbo MkII - Anton - 19-05-2013

Cool. Good luck with it!

RE: Project Truck Turbo MkII - dturbine - 19-05-2013

Gunna be an epic car when its done will keep an eye on this!

RE: Project Truck Turbo MkII - ozonehostile - 20-05-2013

small change of priority with the reshell.

by the end of the month im aiming to have it ready to MOT, not going to be doing anything other than bolting on my turbo and manifolds, exhaust and a few other bits then once its road legal again il start the hard work. i need it to be a rolling project to move between workshops.

RE: Project Truck Turbo MkII - silverzx - 21-05-2013

Good idea..! Kind of what I'm aiming to do with the 200!

RE: Project Truck Turbo MkII - ozonehostile - 21-05-2013

If its got 12 months of mot before I start I'm not going to have to worry about detuning and raising the suspension up, do it all after Smile

If its rolling I can do all the big jobs like engine out at my dads place where the engine crane and forklift are, also a nice flat floor which my workshop doesn't Sad

Cant thank Ricky enough for stripping the bits off the engine, I was brain dead after work today an pretty useless lol

RE: Project Truck Turbo MkII - 306GT30 - 21-05-2013

Yeah!! nice work!

And welcome to the club Wink

RE: Project Truck Turbo MkII - 7057sam - 22-05-2013

RE: Project Truck Turbo MkII - ozonehostile - 22-05-2013

Day 2:

Stephen came over in the Miami so was distracted for a bit fitting some seats and offloading all the interior that ive removed.

Then the dash came out for the purpose of weight saving to get at the sound deadening behind.

The white car is moving to the workshop in the morning, at the current rate of work it could be running by the
Weekend

Dash took an hour to remove, dont know what all the fuss is about really, going To change the heater matrix while its easy to acccess, saves a job later down the line.

RE: Project Truck Turbo MkII - Stephen - 22-05-2013

Saw this today! Looking good already!
Thanks again for fitting the seats!
Look forward to seeing more progress Smile

RE: Project Truck Turbo MkII - Tom - 23-05-2013

Wooooo cracking on now mate! Keep working this fast, should make for an interesting read! Big Grin

RE: Project Truck Turbo MkII - ozonehostile - 23-05-2013

Day 3:

bye bye truck tub mkI, kinda sad to see it going but its for
a good cause Smile

took a day off work, got a fair bit done.
100% of soundproofing removed, weighs loads!, heater blower also out which is also surprisingly heavy, went at the rear seatbelt mounts with a grinder, all it needs now is some black paint and carbon fiber to make some doorcards and its on to a winner Smile

the soundproofing most people never see
[Image: IMAG0019_zps355e603a.jpg]

can tell how much weight has been removed, the rear has come up by a good few inches lol
[Image: IMAG0023_zps9a3f691e.jpg]

made a start stripping mkI, turbo is all undone, downpipe and exhaust, cut battery tray out of the boot floor and cleaned it up, intercooler and piping off. would have got alot more done on that but ive hit a problem with getting the oil feed out of the block, bastard thing is cross threaded and it was doing my head in so left it for now while i think what to do, been thinking about using the existing oil line on the black car then making an adapter for that using a braided hose upto the turbo.

been in the zone all day so pictures were neglected, but this how things are looking when i left

Project Truck Turbo MkII - Frosty - 23-05-2013

You really are cracking on with this. Can't wait to see it all finished!

RE: Project Truck Turbo MkII - ozonehostile - 23-05-2013

I could have got more done today but spent a good 2 hours trying to get the oil line out and failed miserably, only so much patience i have for that kinda shit lol, did some more little jobs like de_wipering and re-routing the loom to tidy it up.

picking up a 3" stainless powerflow exhaust on saturday, its for an escort but im sure i can modify it to be used with my existing down pipe, couldn't really refuse it for the mighty fine price of £5 haha
