recommend me a head gasket - Frosty - 02-05-2013

So I will be taking the engine out my d turbo to do some bits to as it will make my life easier. I will be fitting some hdi con rods so I will need to take the head off and then need a new head gasket.

I was just wondering if there is 1 that anyone recommends? I was thinking about getting 1 from Peugeot but wondered if there is an aftermarket 1 they recommend

Victor Reinz,

Not had an issue to this day.

RE: recommend me a head gasket - Frosty - 02-05-2013

Ok cheers Darren. Where do you get them from? Any motor factors?

RE: recommend me a head gasket - darrenjlobb - 02-05-2013

Get mine via local engine machine shop...ask around....

RE: recommend me a head gasket - Frosty - 02-05-2013

Ok cheers. What do people do about head bolts? Use the old 1s or buy some new 1s?

RE: recommend me a head gasket - Ricky - 02-05-2013

You will need to find an engine shop to get it, motorfactors won't get them. I also used reinz bolts with mine.

RE: recommend me a head gasket - Connor - 02-05-2013

Bolts can be measured and are fine to use again if they're within tolerance. But most people just get new ones

RE: recommend me a head gasket - zx_volcane - 02-05-2013

I've used elring headgaskets so far, supplied by my engine shop.

RE: recommend me a head gasket - ozonehostile - 02-05-2013

my local motor factors sells the full range of victor reinz. TM factors, don't know if its just hereford if if their a nationwide chain

Thinking of getting a head gasket too, what thickness would you recommend ? Don't think the head has been off before

I used a 3 or 4 notch on mine.. Bigger the gasket the more it will lower c/r

Not that it makes a HUGE difference !

Good question. Don't think my head has been off before either.

What thickness you guys usually go for?

RE: recommend me a head gasket - CJ_Derv - 03-05-2013

Thickest notch

RE: recommend me a head gasket - darrenjlobb - 03-05-2013

Just get a 3 notch (chepeast)

It makes no odds, the difference between thickest and thinnist is a couple thou...You most notice any difference Smile

RE: recommend me a head gasket - Frosty - 03-05-2013

Cheers guys

Im popping in to town tomorrow so I will go in and speak to someone in GSF to see if they can get hold of a victor reinz head gasket

RE: recommend me a head gasket - anto - 03-05-2013

I put a payen gasket on mine and no issues.
New bolts are cheap so may as well go with new.

RE: recommend me a head gasket - Frosty - 04-05-2013

Anyone know of anywhere in the exeter/taunton area that sells vitor reinz stuff or any where online that sells it?

RE: recommend me a head gasket - Frosty - 09-05-2013

I got mine from Dorset auto spares, a parts place we use at work. I got the head gasket, head set which include everything and head bolts. That was £74 including Vat

RE: recommend me a head gasket - Danny2009 - 05-07-2013

I've had 40 psi running through a original pug gasket and it was fine

Everyone reccomends victor reinz as said above but don't know anyone local who sell them I've always used payen and they have been fine

RE: recommend me a head gasket - Dave - 05-07-2013

Any MLS gasket will be fine IMO

RE: recommend me a head gasket - darrenjlobb - 05-07-2013

What Dave said is true ^

VR is just my first choice due to it being avalible, and never caused any issues!
