Knocking hdi - mad306man - 07-04-2013 My hdi has just developed a nasty knocking noise, sounds bottom end to me. Opinions please, cheers http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vidmg.photobucket.com/albums/0803/n_yemm1/20130407_173714.mp4 RE: Knocking hdi - C2K - 07-04-2013 Video doesn't play. Look at your crank pulley with the engine running. Re: Knocking hdi - mad306man - 07-04-2013 RE: Knocking hdi - C2K - 07-04-2013 http://vidmg.photobucket.com/albums/0803/n_yemm1/20130407_173714.mp4 worked As before, look at your crank pulley through the wheelarch with the liner off, i bet its flapping about. RE: Knocking hdi - cully - 07-04-2013 bottom pulley or autotensioner gets my vote take the aux belt off and runn the car again Re: Knocking hdi - mad306man - 07-04-2013 Nice one for fixing the vid, I must be an idiot. Are you expecting the pulley to have worked loose? Can it be tightened? RE: Knocking hdi - cully - 07-04-2013 the pulley breaks up as its in two pieces it needs replacing as if it throws the aux belt it is not uncomon for it to take the cam belt off wrecking the engine RE: Knocking hdi - C2K - 07-04-2013 The rubber damper inbetween the inner and outer fails, causing it to flap about. It can cause lots of damage if it grenades so try to get a new one asap. ECP should sort you out. It should be obviously concentric when healthy, eccentric is bad. Re: Knocking hdi - mad306man - 07-04-2013 Cheers guys. Gonna have a closer look shortly when the kids are in bed. I did glance at the bottom pulley and think hmm, that looks a tad wobbly but thought little of it as I was more worried a rod wad going to fire out of the block Is the pulley easy to change? RE: Knocking hdi - C2K - 07-04-2013 Not difficult. Detension belt and buzz the bolt off. If you don't have a gun, get a friend to stand on the brakes with the car in 5th and crack the bolt. Re: Knocking hdi - mad306man - 07-04-2013 Yeah, that thing is flapping around all over the place. I can feel the inner rubber to metal bond moving with my hand Gonna have to chance it to work tomorrow, but can drive another car the rest of the week. Sounds pretty straight forward to do, so will have a crack at the weekend. To de-tension, is it just a matter of moving a tensioner pulley using a socket? RE: Knocking hdi - Poodle - 08-04-2013 Yes, you can lock it off with an allen key or similar. Re: Knocking hdi - mad306man - 08-04-2013 Nice one. Can anyone share the torque setting for the pulley bolt please? Re: Knocking hdi - mad306man - 08-04-2013 All done now, cheers all RE: Knocking hdi - C2K - 08-04-2013 Sweet, noise subsided one presumes ? Re: Knocking hdi - mad306man - 08-04-2013 Yes mate, all quiet now It's nice to now know what to listen for in the future now. Its much quieter than when I bought it so must have already been going. This is what came off |
