The LUMP is out! - JamesG - 25-03-2013 So today I braved the harsh elements and go on with removing the engine a few photos ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So now the engines out I can take a look at it all tomorrow there is alot of oil around the turbo pipes at the back and the sump is leaking so far my list consists of the following Antifreeze Gearbox oil Gearbox fork bushes Radiator plug Lower ball joint pinch bolts Wishbone bushes (powerflex) Engine bay wiring loom Gaskets - sump inlet rocker Possibly head gasket and head bolts dependant on how much I get paid from work. Upper engine mount and gearbox mount Anti roll bar bushes That's as far as I've got tonight but will be cleaning the engine up before it goes back in and then ill be seeing what else is needed and update the list. Will be blocking up the EGR while its out the misses dad will be making some plates for me so that will be done Clutch and timing belt were both done within the last 10k so just going to double check everything and see if I can see any signs as to why the engine was being tempremental. James RE: The LUMP is out! - gareth7 - 26-03-2013 Nice one James, are you removing the whole EGR unit (might as well now mate) or just blanking it? Thought of loosing the air con too while you've got easy access to everything? The LUMP is out! - JamesG - 26-03-2013 Yes I will be just need two plates making up will be taking it off today and taking a closer look at the engine Will update as I go along RE: The LUMP is out! - DaveW - 26-03-2013 Ah turbo swap? its how i would do it... RE: The LUMP is out! - DeeTurbo - 26-03-2013 Good effort mate. How long did it take to get your engine out? RE: The LUMP is out! - JamesG - 26-03-2013 (26-03-2013, 01:02 PM)DaveW Wrote: Ah turbo swap? its how i would do it... Turbo on it is fine as it is ![]() only having one issue if anyone can help on removing the oil feed pipe to the turbo there was a plastic 'seal' on the end of this pipe now my issue is it has broken inside the pipe which i will get out by taking it off the turbo and using compressed air to get rid of it out the pipe but what is the purpose of it? as ive looked on servicebox but its saying it should be a banjo type pipe. ![]() yet mine is like this with the piece in question ![]() If anyone has any ideas please let me know. ALSO UPDATE ON PROGRESS FOR TODAY i'll let the pictures do the talking! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() (26-03-2013, 07:56 PM)DeeTurbo Wrote: Good effort mate. How long did it take to get your engine out? Took 5hours overall on my own in the lovely cold ![]() ![]() ALSO Been thinking about doing the head gasket but not really going to be flush at the end of the month. Situation is its not leaking that i can see externally, so i can only assume its fine for now but if i was to replace it then would i need to get the head skimmed? I can get the gasket and bolts from ECP with staff discount ![]() James RE: The LUMP is out! - Poodle - 26-03-2013 Only known of two headgaskets to go on these engines in the three years i've been on the forums, probably not worth it tbh. That's a normal turbo fitting, got two the same here. No idea what that plastic ring does though, was broken on my old one, took it out and didn't have an issue. That said, i only ran the car for about 1000 miles after taking it out before writing the bugger off, so maybe not a very good example. RE: The LUMP is out! - DeeTurbo - 27-03-2013 Did you do any work on it today mate? RE: The LUMP is out! - Oil-burner - 27-03-2013 Cant wait to get stuck into mine! The LUMP is out! - JamesG - 28-03-2013 Think I made a stupid mistake by syringing oil into the turbo itself and not the oil pipe as I was half asleep unsure as to take it off again and clean it up or just leave it and let it burn off? Any input would be great. ![]() A few pictures of today's progress in the last couple of hours ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The LUMP is out! - JamesG - 29-03-2013 Anyone got some advice? RE: The LUMP is out! - DeeTurbo - 29-03-2013 How much did you put in? It should be fine but the car might smoke a bit when you start it up. RE: The LUMP is out! - Poodle - 29-03-2013 It'll just burn off, shouldn't worry about it. RE: The LUMP is out! - Toms306 - 29-03-2013 Yeah as said it'll burn off, my rebuilt turbo had some sort of oil inside it from the rebuild and smoked/stank the first drive but was fine after. ![]() The LUMP is out! - JamesG - 29-03-2013 Was 80ml which is nothing really! Cheers guys I kind of knew in the back of my head was just looking for some reassurance ![]() ![]() The LUMP is out! - JamesG - 09-04-2013 A few updates been a long day today will be hopefully finishing off tomorrow. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Will update tomorrow all being well the lump should be up and running!!
