have to change steering rack on a 306 glx hdi,
steering gone patchy,
turn left as light as a bird,
turn to right get harder ,
and arms needed that belong to Hercules,
heavy [might add am bit old ]
so feel it ,
more then sons,
they say just a bit sticky at end right hand lock,
so check column u jays,
they are free and no play no tightness,
tie end joints replaced ,
lower arm ball joints wish bone s both new both sides
new struts and heads , both sides
still this tightness in right lock, [not right worry's me Undecided ]
any one done, one of these 306 estate glx hdi racks,
from what I see under car looks a pig,
need info as to how done,
Hayes manual abit vague
at this point in dismantling in this version of 306 ,
Dodgy

Was this a poem or an actual issue? I couldn't tell Tongue

My bad just read though a second time realised you have changed top mounts.

It's fairly simple actually. Undo the rear fixing bolts for the subframe so it drops down a few Cm. remove the two hydraulic lines to the pas pump, remove the UJ by undoing the 10mm bolt, removing it and prising the UJ apart, undo both track rod ends and then undo the rack from the subframe (2x 17mm bolts iirc) and then slide the rack out. Think it can only go out the passenger side.

I have collected large pile of these small parts , [ as I sure he remove things that will break its a French car]

plus axel stands, jacks, lot of rag, bucket for old hydraulic oil wd40, new oil ect,
think I have it covered
let you know how he got on ,
been working on cars, most of my driving life,,
and but for fact at nearly 70yrs old,
and wee bit cold, outside, Doh
would do myself,
and I see ,
this is not going to be as easy,
as he said ,
thank you for info,
