What boost gauge? - kentiiboii - 05-03-2013

Not really sure where to put this.

But I'm currently looking for a boost gauge. Don't want to spend too much.

Hoping you could recommend me a gauge.
Tell us what gauge you have and post a link of where it was from and price.

This is the one i've got:

If you can afford nearly £50, get a stack one, they're damn good. No idea about budget ones TBH

If that's a true motor meter racing gauge then they are a really good make.

RE: What boost gauge? - ozonehostile - 05-03-2013

Not sure, but it works a treat, doesnt flutter. I wanna say its usually quite accurate, butthen someone will come along and say "how do you know its accurate?" lol

That's roughly about the price I was hoping Smile. Don't really mind paying too much. But don't wanna go over the top I'd I don't have too.

Any know if there any decent cheap ones at all? I seen one that looked similar to wingnutz but it was in hong kong

RE: What boost gauge? - C.A.R. - 06-03-2013

Budget eBay ones aren't overly accurate from experience. The needle will vibrate on idle and all it will really tell you is whether or not there is boost pressure - don't rely on it to tell you exactly how much!

I bought a second-hand Stack and it's brilliant. I'm only on a stage 1 but it's a nice little gadget to have, even if unecessary.

Crap picture but with a bit of sweet wrapper it even matches the OEM clocks -

Tom those Prosport gauges are f*cking beatiful <3

As for cheap gauges fluttering, stick a roll up fag filter in the boost pipe, settles it reet down. I got my gauge from McGills Motorsport and while the EGT gauge is terrible, the boost gauge was nailing bang on 14psi when the motor was stock, and it read up to 30+psi when I killed the last GT. Accurate enough for me to know when something's going to break.

I remember reading this a long time ago on the dark side. So cheapos are ok?

RE: What boost gauge? - cwspellowe - 06-03-2013

Mine's been absolutely fine for the best part of a year, so i'd say so aye. Not sure how accurate you need it to be, as long as it's a ball park figure you're fine. Not like you're monitoring AFR or timing, if your cheap gauge says 20psi and in reality it could be 19-21psi i'm fine with that.

You should know what standard pressure is anyway so see what it reads standard and you'll know how accurate it is, surely?

RE: What boost gauge? - C.A.R. - 06-03-2013

Cheap eBay gauge was reading 16-17PSi under hard acceleration

Stack Gauge peaks at 13PSi max, which is more like it. So yeah, quite a bit out.

The vibrating needle is what pissed me off most though lol
