Caliper sliders - DeeTurbo - 03-03-2013 What grease should be used on the slider bolts. I was thinking of using lithium grease but is this the right stuff to use? I know I can't use normal multi purpose grease as that will not go well with the little rubber boot. RE: Caliper sliders - gareth7 - 03-03-2013 This is good stuff mate.......... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MINTEX-CERATEC-CERA-TEC-ANTI-BRAKE-SQUEAL-ADVANCED-LUBRICANT-GREASE-75ml-/110927850373 RE: Caliper sliders - samass - 03-03-2013 Or bigg redd or whatever do the right red grease stuff, also somewhere on eBay RE: Caliper sliders - DeeTurbo - 03-03-2013 (03-03-2013, 11:38 AM)gareth7 Wrote: This is good stuff mate.......... I've got some of this and I thought that stuff is for when replacing pads but it looks like it could be used on the sliders also. The red rubber safe grease is castor grease. I think I might use the CERATEC stuff and see how it goes. Thanks for your replies guys. RE: Caliper sliders - ginge191 - 03-03-2013 That red grease is the grease to use on the sliders; As Sam said RE: Caliper sliders - titch - 03-03-2013 This is what i used on mine. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/140771391781 RE: Caliper sliders - DeeTurbo - 03-03-2013 Red grease it is then. The only reason I thought to use something else was because when I replaced the slider boots a few years back the packet of grease that came with the new ones wasn't the red grease and I thought it might of been lithium grease. RE: Caliper sliders - ConorTRG - 03-03-2013 Rubber grease as said. RE: Caliper sliders - C2K - 03-03-2013 Red rubber grease. Get a pot off ebay, it lasts ages. Try to clean the old grease out if you can but don't worry if you can't. RE: Caliper sliders - DeeTurbo - 03-03-2013 I suppose it would be good to regrease the sliders every pad change. RE: Caliper sliders - C2K - 03-03-2013 Put enough red rubber grade in there and you won't have to. I revisited my fronts after ages and nothing needed doing. Have sod all rolling resistance on mine as a result. RE: Caliper sliders - DeeTurbo - 03-03-2013 Have you ever replaced the piston seals in your calipers? I think all my brakes are dragging ever so slightly because there all dragging a little I think that might be yeah my cars is feeling a little slow at the moment. Fronts wore out completely (both caliper main piston seals were baggy) so I used the opportunity to put 283mm '6 brakes on instead. RE: Caliper sliders - DeeTurbo - 04-03-2013 Did you notice much of a difference with the extra 17mm? I've got some seals for the fronts just need some time to fit them. RE: Caliper sliders - C2K - 05-03-2013 Well for me I got them cheap, it only cost me about £10 to change as my 266s were shot and my 283s were a bargain with nearly new discs and pads at the time. The difference is very noticeable, even against new 266s. Can't remember the differences but i'm sure the 6 caliper piston is larger. RE: Caliper sliders - DeeTurbo - 05-03-2013 Wow, just been looking in to this, the 6 caliper pistons are 57.1mm and the standard Dturbo ones are 53.9mm. That is more then I thought they'd be. I might have to swap in the summer. RE: Caliper sliders - C2K - 07-03-2013 That's right. I remembered the 57mm of the GTi6 caliper, but couldn't recall what size piston was in the originals. Worth it imo. RE: Caliper sliders - DeeTurbo - 07-03-2013 Do you know if there is a difference in the master cylinders. I couldn't find details on that? RE: Caliper sliders - C2K - 07-03-2013 23.8mm for both my Rallye and my HDi. RE: Caliper sliders - DeeTurbo - 08-03-2013 Cheers. |
