Bad Handling - Bananalad - 25-02-2013

Just recently my car has gotten dangerous at higher speeds and going around corners, 70mph in a straight line and its as if my car has a flat wheel (checked pressures they are ok). If i go around a corner the car sways a little which is pretty dangerous. Id just like to add its nothing to do with my driving style as ive had the car two years and it only started doing it a couple of weeks ago! Anymore questions ask away! Thanks

RE: Bad Handling - Scott - 25-02-2013

Is it under braking or just generally? It could be knackered beam mounts.

RE: Bad Handling - Bananalad - 25-02-2013

Now that you mention it, its worse under braking

RE: Bad Handling - Ricky - 25-02-2013

Does it feel more front end or back end that's moving? I would say ball joint/hub connection or beam mounts.

RE: Bad Handling - Bananalad - 25-02-2013

More back endish, its worse going around a right hand corner i think, also rear beam has no camber.. Anyway of checking beam mounts without taking them out?

RE: Bad Handling - Scott - 25-02-2013

It may not have camber but the mounts can still be ruined, and can look fine with a visual check. The moment you take them off they can just break apart though, as the weight of the car on the beam is pretty much all that's keeping it in position and together!

RE: Bad Handling - Bananalad - 25-02-2013

Think ill just buy solid ones anyway! Cant hurt to change them im sure there 17 years old!

RE: Bad Handling - Oil-burner - 25-02-2013

+1 for beam mounts.
I took my sedan for its mot knowing there was a knocking on the back and very baggy handling.
He jacked the back end up and the axle stayed on the floor!
Just one mount holding the beam on and id been doing illegal speeds down the private runway (read m1) on the way home

RE: Bad Handling - lolsteve - 26-02-2013

How do q-drive mounts rate up? they are cheap but are they too cheap?

RE: Bad Handling - Just Sean - 26-02-2013

/shameless

RE: Bad Handling - Bananalad - 26-02-2013

How much for the solid mounts posted to ireland? Where can you buy them new?

RE: Bad Handling - Just Sean - 26-02-2013

I was after £80+ postage. Postage would be about 15-20quid I recon...

RE: Bad Handling - DaveW - 26-02-2013

Check everything wishbones, trackrods, hubs, mounts, could be any of those.

RE: Bad Handling - puglove - 26-02-2013

I had this on my sigma when i bought it almost feels like its trying to pull you towards to out side of the corner?

If so its beam mounts. Mine looked fine. Took the beam off and the left hand front mount just fell off lol. FUBAR'd

RE: Bad Handling - Bananalad - 05-04-2013

It feels like i have a flat wheel! Whats the best value ones?

RE: Bad Handling - sweeney1987 - 05-04-2013

usually when rear beam mounts go you can hear a judder under braking.
Personally wouldnt go for solid, too harsh for driving everyday, could try get some group n ones if you want to upgrade i suppose
