Airbag light Flashing! - Welshdrg - 18-02-2013

So i bought the car 3 weeks ago and have had the airbag light flashing at me i just read it can cause the car to fail the mot for this... i crashed my car last week took the whole wing out but i can still drive the car but when i crash no airbags came out good in some way ...iv looked under the seat and the wires have been split how do i get the light off ???
p.s. its a r reg 306 1.4

RE: Airbag light Flashing! - Eeyore - 18-02-2013

er... you need to put the wires back together! If the circuit isnt complete then it will flash! There is a resistor you can put in the under seat wires to fool it but i cant remember the value!

1.8ohm IIRC

RE: Airbag light Flashing! - devils_fuel - 23-02-2013

I have just changed both the pretensioners and the airbag control unit and....it still fudging flashes...I've had it with French rubbish lol

Resistor it is then...

Check the airbag ring behind the steering wheel, another thing that can wear.

Could be wrong here but you may need to disconnect the battery to clear the airbag fault.

RE: Airbag light Flashing! - Piggy - 25-02-2013

I know some may feel a bodge...but I have NEVER seen a 306 airbags go off in all manner of accidents...removal for the win

i will try and find my original airbag and the ring...if not then bodge coming on!

Great idea. and then what happens when it comes mot time after April? "sorry sir, you car has failed because the airbags that were fitted as standard no longer are"

A flashing light indicates a seat problem. Dont bodge it with a resistor. Its just as easy to actually repair it by cutting the plugs off under the seats and soldering the wires.

Oh and piggy, ive seen plenty of crashed 306s with blown airbags. ask ed...

RE: Airbag light Flashing! - Piggy - 25-02-2013

airbag light aint part of MOT test

RE: Airbag light Flashing! - Niall - 25-02-2013

Air bag light and presence of standard airbags will be part of the MOT test as of April 2013.
We are currently in a 'bedding in' process which will end shortly and during that process, all of these issues are advise only.

RE: Airbag light Flashing! - Piggy - 25-02-2013

only for the newer vehicles which apply

RE: Airbag light Flashing! - Niall - 25-02-2013

not at all. The air bag light is a automatic fail on any car which has airbags regardless of age. The presence of airbags will be something that some may get away with due to car age. Seeing as the last 306 was produced in 2002, we may be lucky but doubt it.

Is this definite now? It was meant to be this time last year. Trying to get my Rallye in before April for this reason. http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/repository/MoT%20-%20Issue%2056%20-%20Jan%202013.pdf page 4 tells me it's not yet ready to be brought in.

I got an advisory for airbag light on my HDi at the end of Jan.

Niall red my previous posts...the effort I've gone to...giving up fixing it properly as I have no time or money Sad

I don't suppose you have those harnesses?

RE: Airbag light Flashing! - Niall - 26-02-2013

SOLDER THE BLOODY WIRES!!!!!!

Its a 5 minute job. The plugs are 99% of the reason of these flashing lights.

This. I tried cully's trick with the plugs and if anything, it made it worse.

They're either getting soldered or bulleted when the weather warms up. My brothers has a solid light on, what's that refer to Niall? I can't remember.

Solid light is most probably drivers or passengers air bag or a airbag ECU fault. As has been said, the connector to the steering wheel can be temperamental!

Surely replacing the plugs with spade connectors is just as good? I don't have a soldering iron..I broke it Sad

RE: Airbag light Flashing! - Niall - 26-02-2013

as long as they are insulated, yes. You can buy heat shrink bullet connectors from halfords. They are ideal!

RE: Airbag light Flashing! - devils_fuel - 26-02-2013

Yeah I used insulated ones & replaced everything else a part from steering wheel ring-that next or can I plug the dt in to pug plant and see what's wrong?

Thanks for your pointers Niall, much appreciated

RE: Airbag light Flashing! - devils_fuel - 26-02-2013

New development, the light has been on and off on a sided journey..I guess a loose connection some where lol

RE: Airbag light Flashing! - Niall - 26-02-2013

99.9% the connections under the seats.

RE: Airbag light Flashing! - devils_fuel - 26-02-2013

I was just chatting to cully about that, I am going to re-vist them and if its not that, then hunt for some wiring looms from the seats to the airbag ecu as they join with orange plugs...?

RE: Airbag light Flashing! - Niall - 26-02-2013

correct and i may have some. will double check tomorrow

RE: Airbag light Flashing! - devils_fuel - 26-02-2013

Oh fantastic Niall, let me know. I can hopefully re-visit the underseat connections this sat so will let you know how I got on Smile

RE: Airbag light Flashing! - C2K - 16-03-2013

Fail, looks like it's here.

http://www.dft.gov.uk/vosa/repository/CHANGES%20TO%20THE%20MOT%20TEST%20EFFECTIVE%20FROM%2020%20MARCH%202013.pdf

And my rallye is f*cked so can't get it to an MOT in time. -_-

RE: Airbag light Flashing! - devils_fuel - 16-03-2013

Oh shite !!!!
