W448 VCX Whippy's old hdi - TY-HDI - 09-02-2013 Anyone know where this has ended up? I had it for over two years, sold it to Sam Barker, then he sold in on 6 months later. Interested to see how it ended up. Pic in it's better days.. ![]() ![]() RE: W448 VCX Whippy's old hdi - C2K - 09-02-2013 They seem to be the only pics in existence. W448 VCX Whippy's old hdi - Sambarker - 09-02-2013 One of Raz's relations (Pboost) bought it RE: W448 VCX Whippy's old hdi - TY-HDI - 09-02-2013 The only pics on my laptop. So it's midlands way now sam? RE: W448 VCX Whippy's old hdi - Ruan - 09-02-2013 ![]() RE: W448 VCX Whippy's old hdi - Just Sean - 09-02-2013 Looks lush on them wheels! RE: W448 VCX Whippy's old hdi - spike2002 - 09-02-2013 Yup this was at the rr meet the other week one of raz mates. I have a vid on my phone of it on the rollers ![]() RE: W448 VCX Whippy's old hdi - samass - 09-02-2013 Didn't it do really shit on the dyno? Like pull way less than expected? W448 VCX Whippy's old hdi - Sambarker - 09-02-2013 When i tried to dyno it they couldn't get a reading cos the clutch was slipping too bad RE: W448 VCX Whippy's old hdi - TY-HDI - 09-02-2013 What did it dyno at? Whats been done since newest owner had it? RE: W448 VCX Whippy's old hdi - spike2002 - 09-02-2013 Iirc it got around the 140 but the car has blowing exhaust and few other problems iirc sure raz will be along soon and answer more accurately ![]() RE: W448 VCX Whippy's old hdi - GTI 6 - 09-02-2013 Yes it now belongs to us ran 141 bhp and 270ft lb torque The clutch has been changed now to a helix paddle and holds the boost well No more slipping Sam lol. The car only ran 141 because it has a shit exhaust that leaks Boost leak from the turbo pipe And a open filter which ain't doing no favours ha ha All the above will be getting sorted this was just to see what it would run Nothing has been done to the car except the clutch change As its been a daily driver RE: W448 VCX Whippy's old hdi - Ruan - 09-02-2013 I love that one as a poor dyno reading excuse.. "Has a blowing exhaust"... How does a blowing exhaust detract from the peak power figure? Yeah sure the torque below about 4,500rpm will be reduced, but past there, it'll make near enough no difference... I was annoyed when the dyno place I went to told me I couldn't run with no exhaust ![]() RE: W448 VCX Whippy's old hdi - GTI 6 - 09-02-2013 Obviously you know the car better than me yeah Thanks for your usefull input RE: W448 VCX Whippy's old hdi - TY-HDI - 09-02-2013 Ruan the hdi really doesn't have power past 4.5k so that's no issue then? Nice torque figure, shame on the BHP. Although the place you all went for the dyno day seems quite shit so the figure probably don't mean alot. Does it still pull well? Didnt have one for like 6 months or something haha? RE: W448 VCX Whippy's old hdi - TY-HDI - 09-02-2013 Also sam drove with no exhaust at all aswell for abit RE: W448 VCX Whippy's old hdi - GTI 6 - 09-02-2013 (09-02-2013, 05:47 PM)TY-HDI Wrote: Ruan the hdi really doesn't have power past 4.5k so that's no issue then? Yeah the car drives absolutely spot on just needs a nice exhaust putting on as when I got it Sam had just put a temporary exhaust which it still retains The boost leak and Induction will be sorted This was just a base figure to see what it would run . RE: W448 VCX Whippy's old hdi - spike2002 - 09-02-2013 When will this be back on the rollers raz? Be nice to see what it makes when its all sorted ![]() ![]() RE: W448 VCX Whippy's old hdi - GTI 6 - 09-02-2013 If I roll it again it will be going on a dyna pack hub dyno lee [quote='GTI 6' pid='213868' dateline='1360435813'] If I roll it again it will be going on a dyna pack hub dyno lee One of my good mates who runs a garage has just bought a dyna pack So il be running it to see what difference it makes and the bonus is it will be a free run RE: W448 VCX Whippy's old hdi - TY-HDI - 09-02-2013 How many 306's do you own now raz? Still the same height? What wheels? Turbocharged Diesels really don't suffer from any of the issues that petrols do with exhausts. Backpressure is purely there at lower RPMs to keep the mixture in the cylinders where the air inertia isn't high enough to take advantage of the valve overlap and thus is just throwing a large quantity out the exhaust valve. Diesels don't really have this issue, since they're normally turbocharged so the cam profile is such that they don't have much valve overlap and they have a turbocharger on the exhaust side which produces quite a bit of backpressure normally... Most people have this whole thing that "no backpressure = no power" which isn't true, it'll feel like it has less low down torque, however. RE: W448 VCX Whippy's old hdi - Dave - 09-02-2013 exhausts are over rated RE: W448 VCX Whippy's old hdi - samass - 09-02-2013 (09-02-2013, 08:32 PM)Dave Wrote: exhausts are over rated QFT RE: W448 VCX Whippy's old hdi - Toms306 - 09-02-2013 Since my HDi exhaust fell off (just post cat) its much slower bottom end....but surprisingly good top end (if you can be bothered to wait that long lol), didn't realise quite how restrictive the backbox must be! It's bloody loud though, much louder than running the golf with no exhaust, not really sure why as I thought the turbo would muffle the noise. |
