Car feeling very sluggish - Niall - 22-01-2012

Over the last couple of days the car has been feeling very sluggish under acceleration. Only thing that's been done is new exhaust fitted 2 weeks ago (which made it more responsive if anything) and catch tank fitted yesterday.

Since the new exhaust was fitted, it's been running a lot smoother and still does now. I'm worried the fitter might have broken the wires on my lambda (haven't had a chance to check yet) but it seems to be running to well to have a faulty lambda and it's not using any more fuel than usual.

Help!

Re: Car feeling very sluggish - Dum-Dum - 22-01-2012

Inlet Air Temperature.

Re: Car feeling very sluggish - Niall - 22-01-2012

Ah! Will check it actually because I might of disturbed it when refitting my air filter as that is quite close.

Which one is it?

Re: Car feeling very sluggish - Niall - 22-01-2012

What you mean Matt? What sensor? On the gti throttle body it's the one on the bottom that goes into the tb before the butterfly. Has a grey 2 pin plug on the bottom of the tb.

Re: Car feeling very sluggish - 4WayDiablo - 22-01-2012

I still maintain it is because its a 1.8 :-P and its french

Re: Car feeling very sluggish - Niall - 22-01-2012

Re: Car feeling very sluggish - Toms306 - 22-01-2012

1.8 is probably the best all round engine of the 306!! Smile

And are you sure its sluggish....and not that you've just got used to it?

Re: Car feeling very sluggish - Niall - 22-01-2012

Nah I know you get used to them but I hooned it off up the road earlier, when it was nice and warm, and it just wouldn't rev as freely as it did before.

And yeah Tom 1.8 is the best engine Smile

Ah fair enough....cos I had to drive the 1.4 again to make the 1.8 feel quick again after the inital 'wow 115 bhpz' lol......

Boost leaks count as a breakdown. Tongue

Re: Car feeling very sluggish - Foxy-jim - 22-01-2012

Is there a warning light on the dash?

Don't think it would be a lambda as that should show up...

They don't always. They normally only show up when they stop working all together. If they go out of range, they don't give a EML

Re: Car feeling very sluggish - Ruan - 23-01-2012

All this 1.8 slagging...

You realise the XU7JP4 is what they use bored out to 2.0l in the WRC cars, ally block, steel liner... It's a MUCH superior block to the GTi6 block IMO. It's only the head that's pants as stock, but they've got masses of meat on them for porting them out...

Or - oh look, how convenient, the Mi16 1.9 head is 83mm bore too...

Yeah! What he said!

Gave it a ragging up the road yesterday when it was cold (bad I know but I wanted to see if it made a difference) and it was still the same so I don't think it's a temperature problem.
Any other ideas guys?
Might wait till payday and give it a good service and wack some redex through it.
If it was a blocked fuel filter, it would be quite rough would it not? Just a thought.

Re: Car feeling very sluggish - 4WayDiablo - 23-01-2012

Could be new fuel filter time. Also hows the air filter?

I had a warning light when my cat wasn't working so the lambda picked up the fault and flashed up the light.

Re: Car feeling very sluggish - Niall - 23-01-2012

That's because you have two lambda. I don't. The only reason it flagged that up for you is because it would of noticed no difference in readings between the two.

Re: Car feeling very sluggish - Foxy-jim - 23-01-2012

Ah right, didn't realise the 1.8 only had one! Haha. Learn something new!

I would try redex mate. Just pour a whole thing in with half a tank and it will give it a good clean!
