I may have the answer to our stage 2 clutch woes. - Oil-burner - 25-01-2013
Bit early to say but i have got in contact with a specialist clutch company about our clutches.
They manufacture clutches and friction materials for industrial, marine and agricultural industries.
Ive just been on the phone to them for around an hour and they seem very confident they can help us out.
I cant really tell you much more at this stage but they are calling me back on monday to talk in more depth.
There may be a group buy in the pipe line depending on the interest this receives.
As I said this is still in the very early stages yet so dont get too excited but if this goes to plan it could be epic news for our cars!

Isn't the pressure plates one of the problems as well? Would they be able to do anything with that

Pressure plates were mentioned but I cant give any real answers until monday. They have said they have done some custom work for bmw and volvo owners clubs where they were having similar issues.
Again its gonna be another thing to talk about on monday.

Lets hope so mate, would be good if we can find a reasonably priced clutch that we know holds the torque.
Ill keep this thread updated when I speak to the guy on monday.

yeh i thought they were alright but I guess they must be a bit hit and miss sometimes. Itll be interesting to see how much they want per clutch!

Very expensive and mixed results. Some people find they last and some dont.
Plus im gonna try to keep it as close to oem feel as possible because 99% of our cars are our daily drivers.
Ideally I want a reliable clutch thats easy to live with day to day for around £200 if not less.

Oh really, i hadn't heard of anyone who had problems with the helix or sachs clutches? Not the uprated ones anyway... Cost is definitely an issue though lol, i'd already be fmic'd if it wasn't for the £500 clutch requirement. :S

I really don't get what's wrong with a 6 fly and a dt clutch with a cg motorsport 4 paddle friction plate.
~£250 all in and usable daily with a little judder pulling away and changing down into second.

From what ive been reading anyway.
Some people are blaming the quality control and the changes in friction materials they use well helix anyway.
Plus they become so heavy they snap the plastic clips off the clutch cables which again is not ideal and can be costly to replace with metal.
Not to mention the price of the things.

What messing about? If the box is out you should have the fork out to change the bushes anyway IMO.
But there is the issue of being able to get hold of the parts easily.

Isn't that what Jaymes was running? If so that set-up was a bit harsh imo, i wouldn't mind it, but if there was a better option...

As already said, 240 quid cg paddle, u can get a sprung one to if u arnt man enough for an unsprung...just 6 fly and dt lever and ur good for raping torque with an OEM clutch pedal feel

My 4 paddle isn't that much heavier over standard any way and I've found I've gotten use to it quickly too.
You wouldn't notice if you got in the car with me. You might struggle to pull away if your not used to it tho!!
And once it wears out helix will replate it for 180 and its holding a full fat stage 2 map and 24psi with ease it would seemseems.

Most places will do that for 40-50 quid tops!

No benefit, it's required for the conversion to a dt clutch.
