So my HDI engine is now on 180k miles and has head gasket problems.

I am definite swapping the engine but I can't decide between hdi or Dt

I can get a 100k hdi engine fitted for £200

Or I could pick up a cheap DT engine and booooooost.

Serious opinions?

Ummm, you know HDi's have turbos right? For the extra it'll cost you in insurance for the engine change, just get a dt.

Is it definitely hg problems? Just out of interest really, would be the first HDi i've seen to have failed due to the hg, wonder what caused it to go...

RE: Opinions please.. - Chris_90 - 25-01-2013

d turbo! no doubts about it so much better to drive in my opinion.......

RE: Opinions please.. - declantg - 25-01-2013

Yeah I know they have turbos, I'm not that retarded :L

And I'm pretty sure it's HG

RE: Opinions please.. - HDIkyle - 25-01-2013

HG problems at 180k seems unusual. But it has to be Dturbo everytime. My HDI was pushing 186k when I dies but that was all down to electrics. Which are useless and stupid on a peugeot. So anychance yu have to get rid then do it. Also Dturbo are far better for tuning and who could turn down veg and cherry cheapness these days Big Grin

Dec do you really need to ask this question? After mine?

GET IT DONE!!

RE: Opinions please.. - Toms306 - 25-01-2013

Go XUD.

Out of interest, what syptoms are making you think headgasket?

RE: Opinions please.. - declantg - 25-01-2013

Mayo, leaking oil, overheating and losing coolant

RE: Opinions please.. - Dan! - 25-01-2013

Your coolant was horrible when I looked it at a few months ago mate! Black and frothy, I know HDi HG's are pretty good but that was easily the worst I have seen. You know what I would suggest already anyway Wink

RE: Opinions please.. - declantg - 25-01-2013

Anyone selling a cheap XUD in east Anglia?

RE: Opinions please.. - Dan! - 25-01-2013

Ben has just finished fitting his rebuilt engine, so I suppose his old one is going spare...

RE: Opinions please.. - declantg - 25-01-2013

*awaiting Ben to comment*

RE: Opinions please.. - sam - 25-01-2013

Hdi!! Keep it hdi tbh

RE: Opinions please.. - Poodle - 25-01-2013

Does sound like hg tbf, random. That must have been seriously abused during it's life... :S

Oh, and you're binning one engine due to hg problems and deliberately putting an XUD back in...? Jus' sayin'. Itwasntme

Opinions please.. - kentiiboii - 25-01-2013

I'd say keep it hdi! I like the hdi much nice engine to be fair.
But there's my dturbo.
No history 160k. But I've had it on road start of dec and engine wise it's sound. Would benifit from glowies. But I service it straight away! Would benifit from cam belt but you'll end up bosch it while you transferre anyway.

RE: Opinions please.. - Scott - 25-01-2013

Dec seeing as you've had a bit of a love-hate relationship with the car lately you may be better off sticking with a HDi lump. If you decide 3 months down the line you want to sell it then you'll find it much easier to sell it slightly more standard. Engine conversions appeal to a smaller group of people and would put some off due to increased insurance costs.

RE: Opinions please.. - ozonehostile - 25-01-2013

id say keep an hdi 306 hdi. by removing the hdi you would cause yourself all sorts of problems, for a start i would imagene non of the electronic gizmos would work as everything is ecu controlled, so you would need to change the intrument clusters and loads of other bits. tbh, £200 for a new engine fitted sounds really good
