I think I will look at that, as I will need to give my car a good working through, i will be driving some distance too!
Baring in mind his car is black, so it just attracts dirt.
If you use a very good wax, then you can keep the shine on your car for a good few months after each wash.
Each wash after a good detail I always use a rapid detailer to Just keep it up :-)

I love it when a plan comes together! Good to see sum progress is getting her back on the road mate. Mines in for its test this week so as long as it can get thru that and I don't have any passengers in the back we should be safely black Rallye friends at fcs ;-)

And u r defo putting more work than me into getting it clean! I'll wax and polish mine but by the time it's done the 3 hour trip to Combe it'll be filthy again!!

RE: Dum-Dum's Black Rallye - FCS prep underway. - Dum-Dum - 10-05-2015

It's a couple of hours to Coombe for me too but as I won't of driven for a while I doubt I'll be hanging about. Rallye was built to be abused Smile

RE: Dum-Dum's Black Rallye - FCS prep underway. - kentiiboii - 10-05-2015

I might give mine a wash when I wake up with a raging hang over at 5am again. :-)

Dum-Dum's Black Rallye - FCS prep underway. - kentiiboii - 10-05-2015

I did last year [emoji23]

RE: Dum-Dum's Black Rallye - FCS prep underway. - Dum-Dum - 25-05-2015

So I've had a chance to try and tidy up the smoothed grille a little more so on has gone some high build primer, sadly this has reacted with some of the old paint.
[attachment=23386]

I then fitted my painted slam panel which is nice and shiny
[attachment=23387]

I then decided to drill the number plate recess for some air flow holes. Right PITA to do as the bumper is 3 times deeper than a normal hole saw. I've done 79mm holes as the plate can keep it covered if needed. I was tempted to do 6 holes but there really wouldn't of been alot left between the holes.
[attachment=23388]

I've painted the inside of the bumper so it doesn't look so white through the holes and fitted a splitter finally. Got a GTi6 one second hand for £25 posted. Had to use a load of new M6 bolts and nylocks as the original clips are shit.

And a couple of finished photos.

RE: Dum-Dum's Black Rallye - FCS prep underway. - Dum-Dum - 26-05-2015

Cheers guys, starting to really miss driving her. Cant wait to have her taxed for FCS

RE: Dum-Dum's Black Rallye - FCS prep underway. - Dum-Dum - 26-05-2015

So I made a action cam mount for the car. I didn't quite have a long enough bar to do all 4 headrest poles but it's tied to 3 out of the 4.

I'll be writing a guide for tonight but it's cost less than a tenner.

RE: Dum-Dum's Black Rallye - Ready for FCS!!! - Dum-Dum - 04-06-2015

So the car is washed and ready for FCS bar not having been waxed as it was too hot but she is clean inside and out.

Boot carpet and double layer of cloud 9 is pegged down.
[attachment=23571]

Put a new +ve clamp on after cracking the last one
[attachment=23572]

Got my now black strut brace on.
[attachment=23573]

Had my latest new Falken ZE914 fitted and balanced separately (long story), took them 2 mins to change the machine over and 3 mins to balance the wheel.
[attachment=23574]

Following reading a certain old wife tale well an old racing drivers tale at any rate I have made myself an additional silencer/noise reducer that slides over my tail pipe out of a large tin can with 40 holes drilled (it was 40 to make the area of holes add up to about the same area as 2.5" pipe) in the side in a patch. It's supposed to work by the flow hitting the end of the can and bouncing back against itself then having to dissipate through the perforations and is apparently worth a couple of db reduction. I hope I get a chance to test it but I hope I don't need it. It's secured with a jubilee clip.
[attachment=23575]

I've also finished the paint on the front end for now. The paint isn't bad but the smoothing itself is terrible and needs re done so this is just temporary.
[attachment=23576]

And here is how she stands now nearly packed and ready for FCS.

Looks super smart. Hope mine looks as good next year...

That'll be an enormous restriction Chris, think in terms of flow, not cross-sectional area of the holes, make more! Looking bang tidy there, ready for her big unveiling.

But that's how it restricts the noise is restricting the flow. Turned out it wasn't needed because I got 89db on the noise test.

That smooth front looks sweet, I had my doubts but it does look really good
Top work Chris!

Oh and even better news with the holes in the bumper the coolant temp is down and possibly the oil just, coolant was just under 80 on the motorway and didn't get over 85 on the track although oil was up past 120 at times.

RE: Dum-Dum's Black Rallye - Ready for FCS!!! - Matt - 07-06-2015

Yeah man that does look really good! Think I may attack mine with a hole saw now Wink the smooth front just looks so mean!

I just cant bear to put a number plate on it now. Wont be driving it for a week so gives me time to think about what I'm gonna do with the plate. Might get a stick on one for the leading edge of the bonnet or bumper. Maybe smooth a second grille and have one with plate and one without.

RE: Dum-Dum's Black Rallye - Ready for FCS!!! - welshpug - 07-06-2015

just take the plate off on track, anywhere else you shouldnt be getting the oil that hot...

Yeah and with a oil cooler and the fans on a switch you ll be fine.

RE: Dum-Dum's Black Rallye - Ready for FCS!!! - Dum-Dum - 07-06-2015

Yeah but it looks prettier without it.

RE: Dum-Dum's Black Rallye - Ready for FCS!!! - Dum-Dum - 10-06-2015

Made myself a new sig Smile

RE: Dum-Dum's Black Rallye - Ready for FCS!!! - Orta - 10-06-2015

Looking good mate. I think if you're gonna relocate the plate Alfa style square ones down on one side look best. Seen it done on a few phase 1s before...

I don't know what I'm gonna do about the plate, gotta do something but can't make my mind up and I'm using the fact I'm not driving it as an excuse not to make my mind up. A stick on one would be nice and easy but a screw in hard plate could keep it looking more OEM and be easily removable at shows as it defo looks better entirely without.

Anyway another couple of photos from the weekend as it's the prettiest my car has ever looked.
