So is it going back with a standard crank or 2.1/2.2 diesel ones for some extra capacity?

Cully will you be replacing the core plugs? I did mine as a precaution and all were ok except one for some reason. For the sake of £1 each, its worth it so it doesn't piss coolant all down your engine bay a few months after you fit it lol

nope theey cleened up ok so am going to give them a mis
tempted to get the crank n rods ballanced though

Mine looked ok on the outside but one wasn't on the inside. Will see if i still have it for a photo.

2.2 Crank, S16 rods and a couple of mm skimmed of the top of the block would all bolt together nicely.

the 6 is 86mm x 86mm a square engine thats why it wants to rev
i dont see how changing the stroke increases the capacity on a 6 engine without addig extra block hight,surely boreing the block would ad extra capacity
DW12 is 85.00 x 96.00
s16 uses the same rods as the 6 from what i can see

As you've seen the throw is 96mm, an extra 10mm. The GTi6 rods are 158mm center to center and the S16/Mi16 are 152mm center to center giving you the 5mm difference you need. The small end on both is 22mm and the big ends are both 53.7mm

took the old piston rings off no problems!
measured them and they are 1.5/1.5/3mm
decided to check the big end bearings with a micrometer could only get an imperial one so had to convert the reading!
the micrometer is a 1" to 2" size
so the reading is
1.9...50+18 = 1.968" which works out to 49.987mm =standard bearings

S16 used the same block and crank, however a 152mm conrod with taller pistons, bushed small end and circlip located gudgeon pin, a rather heavy piston but usefully meaty valve cutouts.
gti6 uses 158mm conrods and a shrink fit gudgeon pin, and rather poor valve cutouts and thin piston crowns, a whole 1mm can be added however, to allow for cams like PT81's to be timed up correctly and safely, without this, and a thicker gasket if the head has been skimmed, I wouldn't even think about changing the cams.

peugeot phoned the head gasket was in so have picked that up,
also the bottom end ACL bearings ,rings and thrusts are in so will pick them up tommorow

some of the torque settings are followed by an angle so i made myself a protractor to fit over the 1/2 torque wrench
use a fixed point on the block and turn the wrench the number of degrees required

Ive got one of the angle things, but never used it...i just do it in steps of 90, its not exactly hard to follow 90 degrees, simply start, pick your finish point at right angles and follow to it, then add a 45 / 90 as required.
Looking good though, nothing like a proper engine rebuild

never done a OHC engine the last one i did was a BMC 1275 mini engine and box that was a pushrod engine this OHC is far easyer as ther is no tappit clearances

This is what we did in the garage as all engines are torqued down when built-can't see pug farting around with angles etc when building them

started rebuilding this today as the weathers been pants so havn't been able to work on the car so its in the garage today!
cleaned crank ready for instal
new ACL bearings and thrusts installed pre assembly lub
main caps fitted bearings with assembly lub
main caps being installed and torqued down
after each cap is installed the crank is turned to see if its free of pinched tight
all main caps installed and torqued down crank was still nice and free
starting to install the pistons and ACL Race big ends
all in
windage platew oil pump in
oil pump drive and chain oil bath
as it stands tonight

I put ACLs in mine when we built it, also went for a set of ARP rod bolts too... Maybe something to think about?
