RE: Cully's spare Gti6 engine - Dum-Dum - 03-11-2013 So is it going back with a standard crank or 2.1/2.2 diesel ones for some extra capacity? RE: Cully's spare Gti6 engine - Niall - 03-11-2013 Cully will you be replacing the core plugs? I did mine as a precaution and all were ok except one for some reason. For the sake of £1 each, its worth it so it doesn't piss coolant all down your engine bay a few months after you fit it lol RE: Cully's spare Gti6 engine - cully - 03-11-2013 (03-11-2013, 11:06 AM)Dum-Dum Wrote: So is it going back with a standard crank or 2.1/2.2 diesel ones for some extra capacity? havnt thought on it ..... As you've seen the throw is 96mm, an extra 10mm. The GTi6 rods are 158mm center to center and the S16/Mi16 are 152mm center to center giving you the 5mm difference you need. The small end on both is 22mm and the big ends are both 53.7mm RE: Cully's spare Gti6 engine - cully - 04-11-2013 just had an email for my bearing supplyer good prices! Glyco main bearings H1057/5 £23.50 big end bearings 01-4298/4 £18.00 thrust washer A188/4 £9.95 ACL Duraglide main bearings 5M1677 £30.25 Race series big end bearings 4B7700H £70.50 Piston Rings there are two types 1.5/1.5/3.0 which would be £64.95 1.5/1.75/3.0 £55.00 Shipping would be £8.50 All prices are inc vat RE: Cully's spare Gti6 engine - Niall - 04-11-2013 Not bad. you going to fit the rings your self? RE: Cully's spare Gti6 engine - cully - 06-11-2013 took the old piston rings off no problems! measured them and they are 1.5/1.5/3mm decided to check the big end bearings with a micrometer could only get an imperial one so had to convert the reading! the micrometer is a 1" to 2" size so the reading is 1.9...50+18 = 1.968" which works out to 49.987mm =standard bearings RE: Cully's spare Gti6 engine - cully - 08-11-2013 Have ordered my main bearings, big end, thrust washers and ring sets Paypal account looks real sad now have been going mad at cleaning stuff the box of clean is getting bigger have also painted the Block Red! Mmmmmmm RE: Cully's spare Gti6 engine - Connor - 08-11-2013 Think I have to stop off on the way home sunday RE: Cully's spare Gti6 engine - welshpug - 08-11-2013 S16 used the same block and crank, however a 152mm conrod with taller pistons, bushed small end and circlip located gudgeon pin, a rather heavy piston but usefully meaty valve cutouts. gti6 uses 158mm conrods and a shrink fit gudgeon pin, and rather poor valve cutouts and thin piston crowns, a whole 1mm can be added however, to allow for cams like PT81's to be timed up correctly and safely, without this, and a thicker gasket if the head has been skimmed, I wouldn't even think about changing the cams. RE: Cully's spare Gti6 engine - cully - 12-11-2013 peugeot phoned the head gasket was in so have picked that up, also the bottom end ACL bearings ,rings and thrusts are in so will pick them up tommorow RE: Cully's spare Gti6 engine - cully - 14-11-2013 now have all the bearings, headgasket, seals in my hot sticky hands so soon will be building RE: Cully's spare Gti6 engine - cully - 15-11-2013 collecting info on torque settings info as a PDF torques.pdf (Size: 102.74 KB / Downloads: 22) some of the torque settings are followed by an angle so i made myself a protractor to fit over the 1/2 torque wrench use a fixed point on the block and turn the wrench the number of degrees required RE: Cully's spare Gti6 engine - welshpug - 15-11-2013 I bought an angle gauge instead. RE: Cully's spare Gti6 engine - Niall - 15-11-2013 Yeah Cully mine was £4 from Amazon. Hardly breaking the bank you tight northerner....oh hold on! Ill bring mine down on Sunday if you like? Hoping i won't need it for a while! RE: Cully's spare Gti6 engine - darrenjlobb - 15-11-2013 Ive got one of the angle things, but never used it...i just do it in steps of 90, its not exactly hard to follow 90 degrees, simply start, pick your finish point at right angles and follow to it, then add a 45 / 90 as required. Looking good though, nothing like a proper engine rebuild RE: Cully's spare Gti6 engine - Niall - 15-11-2013 (15-11-2013, 06:45 PM)darrenjlobb Wrote: Looking good though, nothing like a proper engine rebuild This! This is what we did in the garage as all engines are torqued down when built-can't see pug farting around with angles etc when building them RE: Cully's spare Gti6 engine - cully - 05-12-2013 started rebuilding this today as the weathers been pants so havn't been able to work on the car so its in the garage today! cleaned crank ready for instal new ACL bearings and thrusts installed pre assembly lub main caps fitted bearings with assembly lub main caps being installed and torqued down after each cap is installed the crank is turned to see if its free of pinched tight all main caps installed and torqued down crank was still nice and free starting to install the pistons and ACL Race big ends all in windage platew oil pump in oil pump drive and chain oil bath as it stands tonight RE: Cully's spare Gti6 engine - mikey b - 06-12-2013 Looking good it's nice when it's out of the car and all clean RE: Cully's spare Gti6 engine - Matt - 06-12-2013 Should have 2.1.... RE: Cully's spare Gti6 engine - welshpug - 06-12-2013 that would have meant £1200 on pistons and rods... RE: Cully's spare Gti6 engine - jammapic - 06-12-2013 I put ACLs in mine when we built it, also went for a set of ARP rod bolts too... Maybe something to think about?
