Cully's Electric car ..T project - THE_Liam - 10-06-2012

Isn't 6.5hp more than the little indoor carts that are already capable of 30-40mph? This should be pretty damn quick if the batteries don't weigh it down too much...

Can I have a go?

Re: Cully's Electric car ..T project - puglove - 10-06-2012

sweeeeeeeet , that is all Tongue

Re: Cully's Electric car ..T project - 4WayDiablo - 10-06-2012

Should be good fun,
Me and a few mates made a go kart from an old ride on mower rated at 14hp :-)
Its good fun toying about with these kinda things

Re: Cully's Electric car ..T project - Dum-Dum - 10-06-2012

Sounds awesome when you flick the switch to up the voltage.

Re: Cully's Electric car ..T project - cully - 10-06-2012

just looking at the perameter set points on the speed controller
i think it is set to ramp to full power in 4 seconds soooooooo.
if the motor can pull the weight and i get the gearing right..0-60 in 4 seconds ????

there are a lot of IFs in that!
if the batterys can deliver the Amps
if i dont shit my pants
if it gets finished

Re: Cully's Electric car ..T project - kingy - 10-06-2012

wooow. 4 seconds? hope you get somewhere near to this mate. thats fast.

Re: Cully's Electric car ..T project - cully - 10-06-2012

i dont expect it to be no where near that though

Re: Cully's Electric car ..T project - D@wson - 10-06-2012

That second motor looks beefy as hell!

Re: Cully's Electric car ..T project - kingy - 10-06-2012

somewhere near it will still be very nice.

Re: Cully's Electric car ..T project - cully - 13-06-2012

yes!!
one of the main sticking point is......was the batterys
i have found some......FOR FREE!
i love working where i do.
they have changed some battery packs on some electric tugs cause they were faulty... but not the whole pack is
so im getting the good ones out the pack.

6volt 250Ah lead acid x lots but only need 4
only down side is weight but the motor and speed controller can eat the amps now!

anyone got a quad rolling chassis.......Hmmmmmm!

RE: Cully's Electric car ..T project - cully - 20-06-2012

ok update time....
THE KART HAS DIED!!

well not really we did the show and tell thing with the school last night that was cool everyone was interested which was good.
then off they went to play with the school hovercrafts ah coooooooool i want one!

no no i digress

the Kart is home in the garage now on stands and i have stripped off all the old electric gear

so Kart 2 Boost project has now begun Smile

RE: Cully's Electric car ..T project - Dum-Dum - 20-06-2012

Needs boosted!

RE: Cully's Electric car ..T project - sweeney1987 - 20-06-2012

Epic project man!!!
looks quality!
would love to do something like this.

RE: Cully's Electric car ..T project - cully - 22-06-2012

think im in my element in the garage hammering cutting grinding

one of the issues i have is mounting the large motor as it wont mount on the existing motor mounts so i have had to fabricate a beefy mount that wont flex with the torque of the motor, so i have built this out of 3mm plate steal
am hoping its adiquet if it flex's i will weld some ribs onto it

RE: Cully's Electric car ..T project - cully - 01-07-2012

another photo update
have finished the motor mount system, fingers crossed its going to be strong enough to hold the torque of the motor
all painted and have mocked up the install
the motor sprocket and bush turned up in the week so i can get some dimensions for the mounting of the speed controller
so now onto the next part of mounting the speed controller Smile

RE: Cully's Electric car ..T project - samass - 01-07-2012

looking good!

take it up the hill next year? lol

RE: Cully's Electric car ..T project - londondan86 - 02-07-2012

Nice work mate, just read through the project.

What about one motor per wheel? Could even have a smaller motor on each front wheel! 4wd elecy cart ftw! (btw I know you probably couldnt power all that but does sound good!)

RE: Cully's Electric car ..T project - cully - 02-07-2012

squeezing more stuff in!
begining to run out of room at the back now though

RE: Cully's Electric car ..T project - cully - 06-07-2012

oh dear!
ordered a second hand seat and it dont fit the kart between the seat uprights being an XXL seat.
so now have to really think about plans for batterys and seat mounting
thought long enough!

so ive cut off the seat supports off with a disc cutter
i love the disc cutter Smile

so now ive had more ideas on battery mountings so im having to refabricate the seat mounts which gives more room for the batterys Smile one ether side of the seat

have also bought battery cable crimp lugs and a crimper for 35mm crimps

RE: Cully's Electric car ..T project - mark_airey - 06-07-2012

Do I presume that "disc cutter" is what the normal types would call a "grinder" or "angle grinder"?? ROFL

In all seriousness though, could you not just reposition the rails for the seat?

RE: Cully's Electric car ..T project - cully - 06-07-2012

its not a grinder when it has a cutting disc fitted Wink

and yes effectivly i will be repositioning the "rails" although they arnt rails they are A type frames that support the side of the Kart seat

but i do love the disc cutter Smile

RE: Cully's Electric car ..T project - Eeyore - 07-07-2012

awesome! keep up the good work!

RE: Cully's Electric car ..T project - cully - 07-07-2012

well it looks to be getting worse as ive cut more stuff off
then suddenly stuff starts to come together again

have made up two battery trays one for each side now i can offer up the seat and trays to get some sort of fixing ideas

RE: Cully's Electric car ..T project - cully - 08-07-2012

had a mass build day today in and out of calls from work
and finaly the fat bastard can sit in the Kart seat mounts and battery trays are in !

RE: Cully's Electric car ..T project - Niall - 08-07-2012

Epic. What do you reckon the total weight is going to be? Should be under say 150-200kg?

im going to guess 200-250 with the Fat driver Itwasntme

RE: Cully's Electric car ..T project - cully - 09-07-2012

35mm cable is a bit of a bitch to crimp!
tightly around the rear axle and up to the motor

RE: Cully's Electric car ..T project - Niall - 09-07-2012

35mm!?! You been stealing from national grid?

RE: Cully's Electric car ..T project - Midnightclub - 09-07-2012

When's the first test drive?

RE: Cully's Electric car ..T project - cully - 09-07-2012
