This isn't happening.. i've just obtained my 5th speedline, im not chucking it lol

any more ideas, please keep it on topic

Re: Audio Budget - What to get?? - Grant - 22-04-2012

If your looking to keep the rear bench we could always just keep it in the boot?
Best of both world then.

Some ideas for inspiration:

Neither look amazing IMO, but just ideas for layout etc. Also another thing to consider, are you going to invert one of the subs? Looks pretty cool if you ask me. No benefit whatsoever, just looks cool lol.

Re: Audio Budget - What to get?? - ginge191 - 22-04-2012

Just one main sub, and no, won't be inverting it i dont think.

Still deciding how/where to mount the compenents, whether to remove the rear seats altogether; which would be nice and create a boot "space" where the currenty bench is...

Ohh im in such confusion.

I like grants his looks subtle. I keep thinking of doing it so I have sub on floor and get a board across the back seats with perspect covering amps.

Cheers fella.

Do it, its not as hard as some may think.

Just want to get my windows tinted now so its not so much of a target for theft....

Tint them like we did on the 106? Haha

Re: Audio Budget - What to get?? - devils_fuel - 22-04-2012

If youre removing the seats then 2 or more subs, or 2 10's in the boot? 2 10's is a solid thump Smile

Re: Audio Budget - What to get?? - Niall - 22-04-2012

devils_fuel Wrote:What about buying 2 x 10 inch subs or 2 x 12 inch's ?, more solid thump + if you're removing the back seat...

By the sounds of things (see what I did there!?.....I'll grab my coat) for what Ginge wants, a single 12" will be fine.

I need 12" in my life. 10" just isn't sufficient Sad

I posted before reading the complete thread, only thought there was 1 page lol

Re: Audio Budget - What to get?? - ginge191 - 22-04-2012

Tbf, I'm swaying more towards the 15'' purely for the size factor...

Re: Audio Budget - What to get?? - 4WayDiablo - 22-04-2012

But it won't sounds as good in your setup or music choice as a 12
But its up to youuu

Re: Audio Budget - What to get?? - devils_fuel - 22-04-2012

You need a lot of power for 15inch ginge...I had 1000w RMS through my 15 in my nova and it sounded cool but feck me did my car vibrate lol

Re: Audio Budget - What to get?? - Curt - 23-04-2012

Going for a 15" over a 12" for aesthetics in a SOUND system is a bit counter productive in my eyes...

As said, a 12" is the most versatile and will suit your needs the best from what you've said. There's also more choice and you'll get more for your money.

Getting the size of the enclosure will also play a big part in getting the sound right if you're making it.

As for recommendations, it's all down to opinion. For me: JL, Focal and Alpine are what mine comprise of, and I wouldn't change them for anything.

any opininons on this combo:

Re: Audio Budget - What to get?? - Niall - 23-04-2012

Go for the JL any day! Vibe is so overpriced for what it is!
Also, maybe look at a different amp. Whats you amp budget?

total budget is £300
components and amp = £150
JL Sub - £76
so remainder "£74" of there around... ninja

Re: Audio Budget - What to get?? - 4WayDiablo - 23-04-2012

Well seeing as your hiding the amp get a second hand one from eBay
Even the local cash converters usually have some amps and so on

Phil speaks sense. I payed 40 quid for my amp. It's 10 years old but was about £900 quid back in th day and the sou d quality is perfect!

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/alpine-v12-am ... _500wt_922

Re: Audio Budget - What to get?? - ginge191 - 23-04-2012

surely that wouldn't suffice the JL sub?

Re: Audio Budget - What to get?? - Niall - 23-04-2012

Here's another thought.
Are you amping the rears as well? If not

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Alpine-Mrv-T7 ... _500wt_922

Bridge the 2 rears and that should be powerful enough

Re: Audio Budget - What to get?? - ginge191 - 23-04-2012

Probably not, i may keep the front speakers, remove parcel shelf etc. and encorporate the components somewhere else...

havn't decided yet

My alpine amp was a bargin on the bay, spend your time looking for one ginge, don't be in a rush to buy and you will get a bargin Wink

Good shout Niall, like mine

Re: Audio Budget - What to get?? - ginge191 - 23-04-2012

Ok,
So if im going for that JL sub http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/jl-12wx.html, what amp specs am i looking for.

Obviously, not every amp would suit this sub?

Id need a monoblock amp, right?

Re: Audio Budget - What to get?? - Niall - 23-04-2012

Don't always need a mono block. If your amping the components, get a 4 channel, use 2 channels for the comps and bridge the other 2 for the sub. Saves on space and cost that way but lacks flexibility to add more speakers. Although if you buy decent speakers for the front, you won't need any more!

ginge191 Wrote:Ok,

i would say not in all cases lol, vibes are mostly monoblock for amp driving but my alpine V12 does mono and stereo powering as its an all round 4 channel amp.

Personally i would say you need a 1000w rms amp, i wouldn't worry about it being a monoblock with that RMS poowwweeeerrrr....as clarkson would say Smile

Pretty much anything will run that sub if its happy at 4ohms as its only 200w isn't it?

A mono or a bridgable stereo one would be fine Smile

I will sort you a PM out tonight, been busy as fook all weekend and not had time sorry Sad

Re: Audio Budget - What to get?? - ginge191 - 23-04-2012

Ok, a lot of this is going over my head.

Ohms? i've seen a lot of subs, identicle RMS etc. but differ in 2/4 ohms? what is this??

Also bridging? What is this? splitting a sub input 2 ways to 2 different channels?

lol sorry, Ohms is the resistance reading of the magnet coil in the sub and the lower the figure the more strain is put on the amp but the better the output, you can get dual coil subs (so 2 separate magnets) which will be for example 2ohms a coil, this allows you to wire it up as either 2 ohms or 4 ohms depending on how its connected and what the amp is capable of Smile

right bridging is when you use a stereo amp (so left and right in and outputs) and bridge the two outputs together using the + of one channel (for example left) and the - of the other (in this example right) this gives you a mono output but instead of having say 2 outputs and 100W you would get 1 output at 200w wiring it bridged (if the amp allows)

Not sure if that will have made things better or worse :?
