Might have a look later...

Re: Another Diablo GTI6 project (MOT failed again!) - kentiiboii - 02-04-2014

So its failed mot again.

Quite gutted about it. But I think station might be trying to do one on me. So taking it back to my usual station.

RE: Another Diablo GTI6 project (MOT failed again!) - powerandtorque - 02-04-2014

Have you actually jacked the car up and looked into the faults listed before casting doubt over the integrity of the MOT tester?

Another Diablo GTI6 project (MOT failed again!) - devils_fuel - 02-04-2014

Not good mate Sad

It all got checked as we was doing the week tbh.
Problem is I keep hearing so much bad stuff from people about the mot station ive taken it too.

RE: Another Diablo GTI6 project (MOT failed again!) - anto - 02-04-2014

Fault 002 - twisted brake hose. How do you do lock to lock steering on a REAR brake hose?

Second that. Alot of that stuff was preventable.

RE: Another Diablo GTI6 project (MOT failed again!) - powerandtorque - 02-04-2014

I've just looked back over the previous failure sheet, and all three of the items that it's just failed on were items that you would have either disturbed or replaced to address failings on the previous MOT.
  • O/S/F balljoint excessive play - failed previous MOT on this (did you do anything to fix this?)
  • N/S/R brake hose twisted - failed previous MOT on this being perished (have you twisted hose when replacing?)
  • O/S/F wheel bearing rough - failed previous MOT on the wheel bearing having excess play (you claim you tightened the hub nut - probably knackered the bearing driving around on it when loose I'd guess)
That says to me that it's more likely to be faults that you've either not fixed properly or faults that you've introduced whilst fixing other issues rather than the MOT station pulling a fast one...

  • N/S/R brake hose twisted - failed previous MOT on this being perished (have you twisted hose when replacing?)
It was the pipe that failed not the hose.
  • O/S/F wheel bearing rough - failed previous MOT on the wheel bearing having excess play (you claim you tightened the hub nut - probably knackered the bearing driving around on it when loose I'd guess) yeah maybe yoyr right, we thought it would just be becuase the hub was loose though as most people would. It only got driven down road to mot station with it loose.

Cheers for information ive added to it.
Cant really go over the car now for a couple weeks as im back at work and dont have the time.

RE: Another Diablo GTI6 project (MOT failed again!) - powerandtorque - 02-04-2014

Check the actual hub balljoint hole itself if the balljoint itself has been replaced - it's getting increasingly common for these to wear/distort to an oval shape which allows the balljoint pin to move around in the hole even when the pinch bolt is correctly torqued up.

Cheers for the help, will check soon as I can. I have hub on the black gti6 anyway so it's ok.

RE: Another Diablo GTI6 project (MOT failed again!) - Grant - 02-04-2014

Did it fail on those originally as they should only retest whatever it failed on....

Legally they should do a full retest, not just check what they failed.

Wrong. Read the bit at the bottom of your pic of the mot failure sheet Wink

Another Diablo GTI6 project (MOT failed again!) - devils_fuel - 02-04-2014

As Niall said "Back in 10 days? A partial retest of the failed items and a small charge "

So he should of only done what was failed not a full test. Undecided

Another Diablo GTI6 project (MOT failed again!) - devils_fuel - 02-04-2014

Bingo unless they have a disclaimer stating that if removed from site and not retested within less that 10 days...this is how you get cheap MOTs, no retest !

I have been always warned about cheap mots and to ask before I book it

RE: Another Diablo GTI6 project (MOT failed again!) - deggerz - 02-04-2014

That's why I said to you this morning pal, at least it'll be quick and when you said he's doing a full retest I found it a bit odd

Re: Another Diablo GTI6 project (MOT failed again!) - kentiiboii - 02-04-2014

Well where I usually go they only check what failed. But after mot my uncle told me they have to legally do full retest, byt should of known not to listen to him hea always full of shit.

Another Diablo GTI6 project (MOT failed again!) - devils_fuel - 02-04-2014

Kent he may go to where its a cheap mot and no free retest, hence a full retest and full charge again Smile

Love the family mate Smile

So when I get chance ill get cam belt done too and take it to usual place. :-)

Another Diablo GTI6 project (MOT failed again!) - devils_fuel - 02-04-2014

Cheers felt a bit fed up today as I was really hoping to tax it and have a little spin before I put it back in garage, just to keep the motivation going.

RE: Another Diablo GTI6 project (MOT failed again!) - procta - 02-04-2014

its a bastard when things like that happen, I have not drove my 306 hardly since it passed the mot, as its got a bloody rust hole the size of a small orange and the back box is due to fall off, something is wrong with the centre pipe, as that's the only part I got replaced, a mate of mine tried to sort the exhaust out last year with better rubbers, but it still eat those, so a replacement system is here, waiting to go on!

RE: Another Diablo GTI6 project (MOT failed again!) - deggerz - 02-04-2014

Don't get fed up pal, these things happen it's just the joy of owning cars, if your dad's away mate and you want it sorting gimme a shout and I'll get the old rags on Smile

2 issues are only a hub and carrier might be worth getting another leg with those in decent nick, should be no more than 20 - 30quid and possibly a new pinch bolt from pug for a few quid, and the rear brake hose... lock to lock check you tell me pal but im sure we can cross match to mine and see how it should be SmileSmile

Actually That might be a awesome idea, I might take you up on that. Problem is just need a hand getting hub off the black gti6 as engine has been dropped, So it's pain in arse.
Rear brake hose will just be taking caliper of and checking it.

Just more of a annoyance than anything. :-)

RE: Another Diablo GTI6 project (MOT failed again!) - deggerz - 02-04-2014

Shouldn't be too much of a problem pal we will get it off SmileSmile

Wicked well have to sort a day out. May have top but a blow torch if I'm trusted enough :-D heat the hub nut of the breaker maybe easier to get of.

RE: Another Diablo GTI6 project (MOT failed again!) - deggerz - 02-04-2014

Sound, I can get a breaker bar which is always handy for the tight f*ckers
