Fuuuuuuu I'm going to the gym haha RE: Matts rallye project - Matt - 12-07-2012 Well it's f*cked. Drive it down the road earlier. All tw warning lights came on, massive whining from bay, stop pop the bonnet, smoke pouring from the cambelt cover. Think it's shredded the belt, possible bent valves ![]() Handed the keys to a garage to get it towed and fixed. Now to find where I put my lube.... RE: Matts rallye project - samass - 12-07-2012 as said man, f*ck. RE: Matts rallye project - puglove - 12-07-2012 Oh dear matt dosnt sound good think you should just get a bicycle and stick to that lol RE: Matts rallye project - Midnightclub - 12-07-2012 Cainer. Sorry to hear that mate RE: Matts rallye project - Matt - 12-07-2012 Few calls put about and mixed reviews. Might not be the cambelt as it was still able to run. (it drove fine before I noticed the lights, It was my mate that noticed) if it was the belt it would destroy it self and not drive. Could be water pump related or aux belt or alternator lol. Either way I won't know till tomorrow earliest. I'm just hoping its not new engine time. I can't afford that shit! Although it would be a good excuse to sort it right out RE: Matts rallye project - Midnightclub - 12-07-2012 IIRC it's the water pump on the 6' setup that causes the biggest issues with belts snapping etc.. RE: Matts rallye project - Ed Doe - 12-07-2012 From the symptoms Matt, I wouldn't think it's slipped the belt and killed the engine. Could be the alternator, could also be the belt rubbing on something due to a tensioner failing or similar. Any update yet from the garage? And if the worst comes to the worst... I may be persuaded to part with my spare engine..... but we will discuss further should it become neccessary to! ![]() RE: Matts rallye project - Matt - 12-07-2012 Cheers ed ![]() Proper gutted as I was meant to be gettin a new wheels tonight ![]() Also checked through paperwork and when cambelt was done it was a "gates kit" and water pump. And was done by a pikey instead of a garage so no warrenty ![]() RE: Matts rallye project - Curt - 12-07-2012 When was it changed? Gates are good quality so don't worry about that. If it was the aux belt I think you would have seen pretty quick... Unless it shredded and got wound up in the cambelt? Seen that happen before. Whatever it is, I hope it's and easy (cheap) fix man, I know it's all you need. RE: Matts rallye project - Niall - 12-07-2012 Matt from what you told me on the phone earlier, it's not the cambelt. I reckon the alternator has given up the ghost. If it was the cambelt 1. It wouldn't start again 2. It wouldn't of driven 3. You wouldn't have any warning lights for it 4. I highly doubt there would be smoke unless the belt has started rubbing or a bearing has given up. From what you described, I think your alternator has gone (have a spare btw ....hint hint). RE: Matts rallye project - Ed Doe - 12-07-2012 Thing I don't understand is the lights all going funny; that surely would be electrical-related..? Do all the dashlights come on when the alternator isn't being charged? If so It may be the aux belt/pulleys are shagged, and the smoke was just coming from the general area of the cam covers? Either way this is not nearly enough information; go down there, get your ban hammer out and start getting answers young man! I demand them! RE: Matts rallye project - Matt - 12-07-2012 Belt was done at 103k it's now on 114k I think alternator maybe shit fitting. And when I looked into the engine bay the belts were all still attached RE: Matts rallye project - Ed Doe - 12-07-2012 Dunno what you're worrying about then, my money's on alternator or pulleys. Definitely doesn't sound cambelt related at all. Or it could be a kerbside magician has magically fitted a supercharger, explaining the whine, and the smoke was shredded tyres?? It mustve been a Lynx-spec install too, judging by the stalling issue... Just wind the throttle position screw in a bit to open the butterfly up; you'll idle at 1500rpm, but it wont stall when you dip the clutch ![]() RE: Matts rallye project - Niall - 12-07-2012 (12-07-2012, 03:32 PM)Ed Doe Wrote: Thing I don't understand is the lights all going funny; that surely would be electrical-related..? Yep will get lights on with bad alternator. I reckon it's that tbh. RE: Matts rallye project - Matt - 12-07-2012 Well hopefully it's not the belt then, could really do without that, can see it being a combination of pullys and alternator being shredded RE: Matts rallye project - Niall - 12-07-2012 Take the aux belt off and start it again and see if you still get the whine. RE: Matts rallye project - Matt - 12-07-2012 The whine stopped anyway. Cars about a mile down the road. Can't be f*cked to go get it or look at it. I have none of my tools either RE: Matts rallye project - Niall - 12-07-2012 If its a mile away, take the aux belt off and drive it home. Should make it providing everything that is electrical is off. |
