I think the 1.4 is 50bhp...

Re: 106 NAD Progress not Project - Dum-Dum - 13-04-2012

Found out I was leaking fuel out of one of the leak off return pipes and fixed that along with replacing the coolant and flushing the system.

Got a chance to fill up last night and it took 19.09l to 266 miles which is 63.4mpg

thats 70 miles round town, 100 miles on the motorrway at 80mph and 94 miles sitting at 60mph

Re: 106 NAD Progress not Project - mark_airey - 13-04-2012

Thats pretty damn good if it was leaking fuel as well :o

Will a '6 engine fit in there ?

Toxic-Jake Wrote:Will a '6 engine fit in there ?

Might spoil the MPG a little bit and I really wouldn't feel safe in a 106 going fast!

I think it would be bloody tight but the XUD fits so it should go in there just about Big Grin

Re: 106 NAD Progress not Project - Dum-Dum - 13-04-2012

What, a XUD7? If so how is it f*cked and how much do you want for it.

Re: 106 NAD Progress not Project - mark_airey - 13-04-2012

I think that was in answer to the request for a supercharger lol

Re: 106 NAD Progress not Project - Dum-Dum - 14-04-2012

Right I finished servicing the car today, did the oil, oil filter and fuel filter and made a new intake pipe as mine had collapsed and it now actually accelerates. The difference is amazing.

The bleed nipple for the fuel pump is on top of the filter housing and in trying to bleed it up a was holding a cloth on top of it to stop too much fuel escaping but still let the air out, anyway it turns out i was pressing a little hard and when i moved my thumb i sent a rather impressive fountain of diesel and air 10ft into the air.

I also started sanding and painting the bonnet (red hammerite FTMFW)

I stupidly made the mistake of deciding to paint the small patches of rust in the boot, anyway it turns out the boot floor is hardly attached at the sides. These pictures dont show really how bad it is as id only cleaned up the inside at this point. Now ive done the outside bits it looks really bad. Im gonna get some more pics and have to plate it tomorrow.

Got a load of hammerite, waxoyl and red oxide primer to keep any further corrosion at bay.

Cant believe it passed an MOT like that 2 weeks ago. Gonna report it to VOSA.

Re: 106 NAD Progress not Project - Dum-Dum - 15-04-2012

Glad to know it's not just me.

kingy Wrote:not to bad with a rattle can are ya.
No im not but this was red hammerite brushed on and its terrible, runs everywhere after i jacked up the back.

Heres the rust after last nights wire brush and scraper action.

Gonna get the grinder out and cut off some bits so ive got better flat surfaces to plate. Dont have a welder ATM but may hire one on pay day or actually buy one so it may have to survive being pop rivited for a week.

Re: 106 NAD Progress not Project - cully - 15-04-2012

the rust there is a common issue my 106 was the same i welded up one side but the hole just grew and grew ended up trading it in for the 306 i have now

Re: 106 NAD Progress not Project - samass - 15-04-2012

if i wasn't busy today id drop round with my welder...

Have you got a decent welder for doing the bodywork mate, If so what you doing next weekend, I will be able to pay you or pay to borrow it.

Re: 106 NAD Progress not Project - samass - 15-04-2012

Just a cheap migmate, 130 I think. Would do the job I reckon. Busy next weekend, but I could bring it to ace if youre going, or give it to someone near you? Dont.mind letting you use it for some.beer tokens to cover materials

Re: 106 NAD Progress not Project - Dum-Dum - 15-04-2012

Mate your a legend, Ill come get it off you at ace but itll be after 9, possibly after 10 by the time i get there as im working. How much do you want.

Re: 106 NAD Progress not Project - Dum-Dum - 15-04-2012

Got all the bad bits cut out with straight edges. Ground most of it back to bare metal.

Then gave it a couple of coats of red oxide and started making up plates which are rivited till i can get hold of a welder

Re: 106 NAD Progress not Project - samass - 15-04-2012

cool, ill probably be there till the last lot bugger off anyways, not really sure to be honest, fiver or summat? think the roll of wire i've got was about 15 quid, and ill be very surprised if you manage to get through half of it haha. maybe just see how much you use and we can sort it out when i pick it up/you drop it off?
you'll probably have to get gas tho, think my bottles empty. bout 13 quid from halfrauds or a welding shop iirc

Re: 106 NAD Progress not Project - Dum-Dum - 15-04-2012

thats cool, will it take gassless wire or is it gas only.

NP getting a bottle or 2 from the ripp off merchants.

Re: 106 NAD Progress not Project - samass - 15-04-2012

ehhhmmm not sure. the wire i have isnt gasless, but i dont see why it wouldnt run with gasless stuff, but you may need a bigger nib. its got 1.6mm wire in it at the mo iirc...

surely gasless wire would cost more than a bottle of gas?

Re: 106 NAD Progress not Project - Dum-Dum - 15-04-2012

4.5kg of flux coated wire is only about £18

Ill stick with whatever is in there TBH

Re: 106 NAD Progress not Project - samass - 15-04-2012

fair nuff. ill bring the bottle ive got along anyway, if i can find it and theres anything in it lol

Re: 106 NAD Progress not Project - Dum-Dum - 15-04-2012

You got a welding mask as i think i got rid of mine.
Cheers again for this mate.

Re: 106 NAD Progress not Project - samass - 15-04-2012

yep, just a shitty one, ill chuck it in the boot too.
no worries mate, always happy to help out
