RE: Laptop - Ed Doe - 28-10-2012

Flol, cheers for your help guys, particularly Niall for the phone counselling session!

Right having got back fro PC World, I've just been going through the tabs I've had open with various options of laptops.

I got as far as a Macbook tab I was looking at... now the one I must've been looking at in store is this one, due to the identical price-tag;

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/apple-13-macbook-pro-md101b-a-laptop-13730045-pdt.html

What I'm confused about is there was a tab open with this one I had been looking at earlier;

http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/apple-macbook-pro-md313b-a-13-3-laptop-silver-11627380-pdt.html

Now I'm confused; they look to be essentially the same thing?!?! I've been reading through the spec.s and as far as I can make out the more expensive one has a 'turbo boost to 3.1ghz' function on the processors... WTF is that? If it means It's gonna coal me every time I want it to be quick I'm out Tongue

But seriously, the only other thing I can see that's different is the screen on the cheaper one is .3" larger, screen res is different, the graphics card is not as good(?), and the bluetooth tech isn't either....

Big question, as i'm STRETCHED if I get the more expensive one.... Is it gonna be that much better?!

Cheers for your help so far guys!!

RE: Laptop - Niall - 28-10-2012

Cheaper one is last years model with a less powerful processor. Problem is it says out of stock so they will probably never get them back in again.

RE: Laptop - Ed Doe - 28-10-2012

S'all the info I needed "less powerful" the end! lol I'll stump up the rest then!

Have you had a look at the price on that link I've sent you?

RE: Laptop - darrenjlobb - 28-10-2012

Well this thread has gone downhill!

RE: Laptop - Ed Doe - 28-10-2012

I'm open to alternatives that mean spending less money Darren!!! Smile

RE: Laptop - Eeyore - 28-10-2012

you can get i5 ultrabooks with windows 7 on for £400 from pc world. they are having a massive sale. check them out for sure!

RE: Laptop - Scott - 28-10-2012

Agreed Smile Only problem is (as I mentioned earlier to Ed) that most laptops these days seem to have the trackpad offset towards the left hand side. I'm sure there's a reason for it or it's labelled as a design feature of some kind, but personally it just annoys me. Needs to be central, damnit.

RE: Laptop - Ed Doe - 28-10-2012

I went to pc world today mate, the cheapest ultrabook running i5 was about £700!!!

I really liked the Asus Zenbook, but that's £850. And considering I can get the mac for an extra £50 and it has a disc drive it's almost not worth it....
That and the massive issue of windows 8... which I abhor....

yep only get what you pay for though. Bet they wont last as long as a macbook as i was saying to ed earlier. My only one is 5 years old and is still going strong and not showing any sign of giving up any time soon!

RE: Laptop - Ed Doe - 28-10-2012

that's equally the issue I've got now. I spend £900 on my old windows laptop which I'm typing this on.

The battery is categorically fcuked - lasts 4 secs when unplugged from poewr
the laptop power socket is buggered, so I have to wedge the lead under a corner of the laptop at a certain angle, and if it stops transitting power, I have 4 secs to realise and sort it out!
the D key is missing
The rest of the keyboard needs to be bashed in a similar fashion as to how Fooby operates the brakes in his car to write anything
It takes about 25minutes to boot up from cold. I've got about 2gb left of space on the hard drive
It wont actually complete a defrag anymore
firefox occasionally freezes for no apparent reason, then resumes 2minutes later just as I'vegot fed up and left it to do something else (often to complete the action I started on my phone!)

It's done well (5 1/2 years now), but It was pretty f*cked by the time I made it to uni, and if I hadn't spent literally everything on cars since then It'd have been upgraded long ago!! But it's actually now getting to the point where I'm concerned if i don't sort it out soon, It'll properly die and I'll lose all my stuff on it.

2. Delete some porn
3. Delete more porn, get a better defrag app
4. Stop watching so much porn

Rofl Feck off!!

RE: Laptop - Niall - 28-10-2012

Porn is a killer for most computers. Mine struggles when ive got 17 videos on the go at the same time. Good thing about the macbook is its a unibody aluminium casing so theres no gaps to get spunk in and its easily wipe clean

RE: Laptop - Fooby - 28-10-2012

Windows Surface RT ninja

I'd always look in PC world first then buy direct... There's so many discount codes you can get online for the likes of dell/hp/Sony. Samsung is knocking out some good lappys lately. you will easily find between 10-20% off to help you spec it up and keep the price down
