Phil theyer different wheels

lolsteve Wrote:nice i have the second heaviest wheel set, and they're not even the second best looking Sad

in reality though would the 24~kg difference between lasers and c5 steelloys even be noticeable

yes, a huge difference. Unsprung weight is what really hurts acceleration and handling.

Think i read somewhere that loosing 1kg of unsprung weight would have the same effect on performance as loosing 4-5kg of weight from the interior.

I would weigh one of my 17" Aidels but they have tyres on Sad

Steve, i've got some lighter steels on mine (can't remember exact numbers or what car i got them from, sorry Chris) have a drive when it's running and see what you think.

If you could mate, they are the wheels I'm getting, just curious how much lighter - if at all - they are than my lasers!

Just gone my Ariannes. Looks like 9.something.

Hard to tell as I don't have digital scales.

Re: Wheel Weights - For Guide - kernow_joe - 21-10-2012

Just weighed an ariane is like 8.7

vortex estimated at 9.1 (205/40/17 parada weighs 10kg!!!)

Dunno how I missed this before.....but yeah heavier wheels do make a noticeable difference to mpg as well as performance. Lost count of the number of wheels I've had now lol, but I still remember first time I changed from the 13s to clones on my ph2, lost about 3mpg over the tank and was much slower pulling away! Worth it though.....I think. Confused

But even now, on the HDi, there's a noticeable performance difference between the swallows and the cyclones....but swallows just aren't cool haha. Probably doesn't.make so much difference on more powerful engines though, was no change between 15 avus's and 16" monty 2s on the golf, except slightly better cornering as I got rid of the balloon tyres lol.

Could we put this in the guide section please? Was looking for it a few weeks ago and didn't have a hope lol.

Team dynamics website says that pro race 1.2, 16 x 7 are 7.4kg, rather than 6.1. Does anyone know which it is?
