Possibly too new for you but how about an E34 540. V8, rear wheel drive and in your budget. Lots of T5's around for that sort of money. T5R or 850R are the ones to get if you can. Ebay Link RE: Project Car Suggestions - Matt-Rallye - 15-09-2014 Volvo 340 GL with a turbocharged mk1 clio williams lump under the bonnet. could be easily built on you budget http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1987-VOLVO-360-GLT-SILVER-SPARES-OR-REPAIRS-/141393115196?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item20ebafb83c RE: Project Car Suggestions - bashbarnard - 15-09-2014 I had a 1.4 340 for a while. Bought for £150 non runner. Was a blast. Lowerd it. Pumped the rear tyres up to 60 psi. Its like sittting in an arm chair while drifting RE: Project Car Suggestions - Ruan - 15-09-2014 Doesn't cover the 20 year old criteria, but 230hp or so, sounds epic... RX8?!? RE: Project Car Suggestions - swampy - 15-09-2014 Oh yes the rx8 Love mine to bits just do your research on them Spark plugs arnt that hard to do just take the passenger wheel off and there they are ![]() ![]() RE: Project Car Suggestions - 1616six - 15-09-2014 I wish they did a diesel RX8, I love the look of them! Esp swampys as it's not bloody red! Not seen another green one before. Dan!'s RX8 track car is nice in a gunmetal grey colour. In fact, why not get a spares/repairs RX8 & fit a 330D lump? ![]() RE: Project Car Suggestions - swampy - 15-09-2014 yeah they only did nordic green for a short period of time on the orginal cars. that green look fantastic when polished up in the sunlight (poorboys blackhole and nattys blue for the win) the problem you have with an engine swap on them is the engine bay is very low due to the curveture of the bonnet, makes fitting most other lumps hard RE: Project Car Suggestions - ADV_93 - 15-09-2014 Mercedes Benz W124. Either OM606 engine with a big turbo and lots of coal or an M103/M104 turbo/supercharger project. They're relatively expensive as the engines can push stupid power on stock internals and it costs about about 20% of the cost to do the same to a japcrap coupe. Project Car Suggestions - td_dan - 15-09-2014 3 rx8s in the scrap yard by me kez (hoppers in aston, 2 are for sale ![]() RE: Project Car Suggestions - procta - 15-09-2014 (15-09-2014, 07:56 AM)Matt-Rallye Wrote: Volvo 340 GL with a turbocharged mk1 clio williams lump under the bonnet. could be easily built on you budget good for the ultra ratty sleeper! I've been warned off of RX-8s so much due to the servicing and stuff, but I guess I'll do a little research on that front. How much are the ones in Aston, Dan? RE: Project Car Suggestions - ozonehostile - 15-09-2014 Nissan stagea?? Can be picked up for less than £2k, 4wd, turbo, unusual RE: Project Car Suggestions - swampy - 15-09-2014 Service costs for an rx8 arnt that bad The coils are the worst part, genuine Mazda or after market so look Plugs can be had for around £70 a set of four Oil is twenty quid a gallon RE: Project Car Suggestions - Kezzieboy - 15-09-2014 Liking some of these ideas, my mind is telling me RX-8 or MX-5, my heart is telling me Ovlov or old Merc. RX8's are heaps! we have broke two at work in the last month as they're just shit. Shit engine, Shit chassis and shoddy build quality = Shit car! MGF is actually a hoot to drive, mid engined, RWD, lightweight and K series engines are bulletproof once they have received the updated headgasket kit. Shit engine, Shit chassis and shoddy build quality = Shit car! man your talking out your arse!! engines are good if looked after, yes you have to treat them with kid gloves a little bit but not much. chassis is sweet, handle very well, very stiff. build quality , well mine is on 70k and has very less rattles than my 20k s16 had when i collected it. some do suffer from rust but nothing that cant be easily fixed , the bootlid rust is the hardest part but nothing a competant body shop cant sort out for around £150 you my friend are just following all the miss conceptions of the rx8 that are banded about buy people who just read the negative things on the internet RE: Project Car Suggestions - Piggy - 16-09-2014 Dont take any notice of him swampy...I mean for goodness sake, he is SERIOUSLY suggesting a MGF. A heavy, poorly built bodged rover metro....and metros werent that much cop in the first place. A nice RX8 well cared for and on some decent boots is an absolute hoot to drive and a sweeeeet engine RE: Project Car Suggestions - bashbarnard - 16-09-2014 Have you ever drove an rx8? Mgf are terrible. For god sake ive worked on enough. They were so lazy when they built it they put a fwd suspension set up on the front then held the wheel bearing in with an outer cv joint!! Gonna have to agree with piggy here dont get an mgf RE: Project Car Suggestions - Matt-Rallye - 16-09-2014 Different opinions and all that. RX8's and unreliable shoddy piles of shit, i get enough people ringing me asking for parts to know this. Yes i have driven them and worked on them same for MGF's. I'd choose an MGF any and every day of the week. proper 2 seater mid engined rwd little roadster with alot of potential if done right. RE: Project Car Suggestions - THE_Liam - 16-09-2014 The problem with the RX-8 is that people don't know how to look after them. Fit the right plugs, use the right oil (and be prepared for it to drink some), never switch it off cold and rag it regularly. Don't expect decent fuel economy either. They are great to drive, but a royal pain in the arse to look after properly, and expensive too. Personally I think the RX-7 was a far better car, less practical but tougher, and more of an out-and-out sports car, the rotary isn't really suited to daily abuse so they work better as a weekend car. I don't know why they never put an NA 13B in the MX-5/Eunos myself. Small and light, mega revvy, similar power to the 1.6/1.8 piston engines, and the older NA rotary engines are far stronger, 100k between rebuilds is possible if looked after. Do that actually, drop a 13B in a Eunos! RE: Project Car Suggestions - C.A.R. - 16-09-2014 Renesis engines in an MX5 are widely done too, and they sound awesome. Whether it's worthwhile doing that vs. Turbo-charging an N/A 1.8/1.6 is another question though... |
