Re: Another Diablo GTI6 project (kentiiboii) - kentiiboii - 10-03-2014 So slow progress with this atm as I was sorting the hdi ready to be sold last week, plus money from that will fund this. But today I thought I'd sort the fuel pump, see why it's needs constant live before it works. So we bought 4 fuel pump relays from scrap yard as mine was cracked so it's a good start. After removing the bodge constant live, and going through all the relays it still wasn't working. The relays was clicking but no fuel. As the alarm was going off constantly due to needing batteries in remote, I thought I try turning alarm off maybe immobiliser had kicked in. But still no joy. Eventually I realised there wasn't a fuel cut of switch, so nipped to the breaking gti6 and nicked the switch to which it fired straight up. Tomorrow I need to change rear brake caliper, bleed the brakes and fill the power steering fluid. Then it's time to book the mot. Re: Another Diablo GTI6 project (kentiiboii) - kentiiboii - 13-03-2014 So tuesday didnt go quite to plan, dad wasnt well so I ended up changing icv on my own. Easy enough job but its a big step for me. Although it didnt really cure the idling issue I had. ![]() So instead I thought id leave car running and make sure it gets up to temp and fans kick in correct. However the bottom hose popped off at 85c. Next day firgued out person before who fitted brandnew radiator and bottom hose didnt fit the clip to hold the hose in place. So thats another job sorted. After trying to get it up to temp again got to about 90c and the car cut out, followed by loads of smoke from under inlet mani and battery (not good!). So today stripped manifold of to find why it's shorted out, turns out the little metal plate thats on the starter motor with the live wire running through was fitted wrong so when engine jolted it caught a metal plate and shorted. So thats been sorted, while I was there we fitted new gasket on manifold. So all done for time being cars running absolutely spot on. :-) RE: Another Diablo GTI6 project (kentiiboii) - 7057sam - 13-03-2014 Good result there mate ![]() Got much more to fix? Re: Another Diablo GTI6 project (kentiiboii) - kentiiboii - 13-03-2014 Need to change rear brake caliper as its leaking, also power steering fluid is leaking(looks like its coming from rack) and back box looks knackered. I have spare rack and caliper (just need easy out for nipple). Will be bodging exhaust up just so I can get it in for mot to see what else its needs. Dont want to spend serious money till its been in for mot and I know its worth the money. But so far its cost me £350, £30 to get it home and £10 in parts. RE: Another Diablo GTI6 project (kentiiboii) - Eeyore - 13-03-2014 Looks good man. Definitely a bargain and youve fixed it very cheaply. Well done! ![]() Re: RE: Another Diablo GTI6 project (kentiiboii) - kentiiboii - 13-03-2014 (13-03-2014, 06:14 PM)SRowell Wrote: Looks good man. Definitely a bargain and youve fixed it very cheaply. Well done! So far yes. Its helped massively having a spare car. Things have been fixed on the cheap for time being as I want to get it in for mot before I start throwing money at it. Re: Another Diablo GTI6 project (MOT Booked!) - kentiiboii - 18-03-2014 So ive sortes brake caliper out today. Steering rack is leaking, so need to refurb it. But its booked in for a mot saturday. What do people think itll fail on? Remembering it hasnt been used for about 6 years... RE: Another Diablo GTI6 project (MOT Booked!) - mcvite - 18-03-2014 Good project on the go here, sounds like you got yourself a bargain here, ok it needs a little work but you would expect that as its been sitting for 6 years!!! Plus in what you paid for it sounds like this could be a little gem for you plus also its a low mileage as well,my gti6 has only covered just under 71,448 miles plus it passed its mot yesterday not bad as its 16 years old now, anyway good luck for saterday, all you can do is check it all over and put it through its test and fingers crossed and see if it passes or fails ![]() RE: Another Diablo GTI6 project (MOT Booked!) - Tom - 18-03-2014 Something rubber or something rusty i think. I know itll fail mate, ive checked and theres a few things I know it needs like brakes, possibly brake pipes and a back box. But im getting it straight in so I have a list of stuff it needs that I wont be able to find my self. That way I can throw money at it and know its worth while. Once its been in for mot and I know its worth spending the money ill be doing alot of work to it. (18-03-2014, 02:56 PM)Tom Wrote: Something rubber or something rusty i think. Ive found one small rust spot in front drivers wheel arch but its just surface rust, Will be treated soon. Suspension and steering felt like shit but engine and gear box was good. As expected it failed, guy said hes suprised we drove it as front o/s was all hanging off not tightened up. ![]() ![]() We got 2 pages of fails but not too bad overall and will all be done this week as well aa full service and cam belt. So hopefully by the end of the week itll be on the road. :-) [attachment=14518][attachment=14517] RE: Another Diablo GTI6 project (MOT Booked!) - Niall - 22-03-2014 Although theres a lot there, none of it sounds that bad other than the damaged brake pipe although I'm intrigued to know how he found that on a lock to lock check. RE: Another Diablo GTI6 project (MOT Booked!) - Matt - 22-03-2014 You sent it for an mot with no front plate? Dude seriously I read through those fails and thought f*ck me.... Fails arent actually that bad, theres alot there but they all overlap eachother so to speak. So fixing one thing will rule out a few different fails :p Be on the road in no time. RE: Another Diablo GTI6 project (MOT Booked!) - Eeyore - 24-03-2014 Youll have all of that sorted in no time. Fail putting it through the MOT with plates missing though lol RE: Another Diablo GTI6 project (MOT Booked!) - devils_fuel - 24-03-2014 passed yet???? Re: Another Diablo GTI6 project (MOT Booked!) - kentiiboii - 24-03-2014 Well today sorted hub out was nothing wrong with bearing but the hub bolt wasnt even any where near tight. ![]() After messing around at car shop them telling me my car needs 266m brake disc and not 283mm, then ripping shocks off the black gti6, going car shop again for a brake pipe and eating kfc! We managed to get rear passenger brakes sorted. :-) productive day! Tomorrow my dad will collect front disc up and steering rack gaiters. So we can crack on with the rest tomorrow. Hopefully by end of the week well have everything all done just depends when other stuff arrive from ebay...
