Always wanted to see how a 16v TU 306 would go...

RE: Upgrade 1.4 8v to 1.6 8v - Midnightclub - 21-01-2014

There was an orange one at FCS 2012 iirc Liam..

Definitely go for the 16v over the 8v.. if you do ever decide you want to tweak it more, there is SO many more parts off the shelf for the 16v.. even have the option for a turbo build

RE: Upgrade 1.4 8v to 1.6 8v - THE_Liam - 21-01-2014

300bhp on standard internals so I hear, that's impressive.

RE: Upgrade 1.4 8v to 1.6 8v - Midnightclub - 21-01-2014

Or 400+ Wink

RE: Upgrade 1.4 8v to 1.6 8v - THE_Liam - 21-01-2014

On standard internals? Wow, even B230 red blocks are struggling at that.

RE: Upgrade 1.4 8v to 1.6 8v - Midnightclub - 21-01-2014

Standard internals, decomp place and arp headstuds.. job jobbed

Yes. Its the 1.6 16v out of a 206cc. Jamie majing is his name and he comes from France iirc. The quality of the work is good but its an acquired taste.

RE: Upgrade 1.4 8v to 1.6 8v - Midnightclub - 21-01-2014

Yeah, as far as looks go i wasn't keen on the orange one.. as you say though, quality of the work done can't be knocked

RE: Upgrade 1.4 8v to 1.6 8v - THE_Liam - 21-01-2014

Actually I know the one you mean now, very Max Power?

RE: Upgrade 1.4 8v to 1.6 8v - Midnightclub - 21-01-2014

That's the one.. seen much worse but not quite to my taste

Shitty sized pics but yeah

RE: Upgrade 1.4 8v to 1.6 8v - jammapic - 21-01-2014

stick a 1.6 16v in it... so much better.

If it were me, I'd probably put it on OMEX or similar, don't worry about the ECU then and if you have some spare scratch get some throttle bodies on it.

Interesting little project.....

Im fairly sure he is on a budget or wouldnt be considering a 1.6 8v over a 1.6 16v. If its a problem to stretch to the 16v im fairly sure an omex and throttlebodies are out.

RE: Upgrade 1.4 8v to 1.6 8v - jammapic - 21-01-2014

Ah - yeah, fair enough I suppose.

Even a straight 16v would be a nice upgrade, and a bit more interesting than the "norm"!!

RE: Upgrade 1.4 8v to 1.6 8v - John1.4 - 21-01-2014

the exhaust and engine loom would be the only problems, afaik the 16v mani wouldn't match up with the 306 downpipe so a 'Franken-Mani' would have to be made. the engine loom would have to be modified to fit the 306 engine bay or a new bracket for the ecu made at the cambelt end, otherwise it's just a question of bolting it in

RE: Upgrade 1.4 8v to 1.6 8v - 306Dan - 21-01-2014

The engine mount also needs modifying or a custom mount making, I'm currently gathering parts to do this

RE: Upgrade 1.4 8v to 1.6 8v - Foxy-jim - 21-01-2014

Don't get me wrong, I would love to do that and put a 16v engine in, but when you've been offered a 8v engine for £50 it isn't a lot of money for an extra 25bhp.

Phoned the insurance just now and they said they won't insure me if I did it...

1.4 8v and 1.6 8v are the same engine arent they? Wink how did you know its been changed as it looks standard hint hint

RE: Upgrade 1.4 8v to 1.6 8v - John1.4 - 21-01-2014

well the insurers would probably check the engine code / EIN for one, but otherwise there are subtle differences

RE: Upgrade 1.4 8v to 1.6 8v - Ruan - 13-02-2014

Find out what type of ECU you're using atm and stick with it in terms of 3plug vs single plug... Trying to make a single plug work with 3 plug wiring or vice versa will be a nightmare - lots changed on the crossover between the two.

If yours is a 3 plug - ensure you get a "silver top" 1.6 8v (100hp) as they were the also 3 plug - they were only available on the transition to semi-mux (3 plug) cars, I wouldn't bother trying to change to a single plug 1.6 if your 1.4 is a 3 plug.

Though yes - a 1.6 16v would be the way forwards, it's not actually the easiest of conversion due to the upper left engine mount - it's quite a bit different in a 106 and would need adapting.
