RE: Build me a new computer. - Poodle - 28-02-2013

Ok cheers guys.

I went with the OCZ stuff because the last time i specced a computer samsung were a pile of shit with high failure rates and OCZ were passable budget stuff LOL! Only want a small one anyway, so will probably pick up the same then.

Why would having the motherboard bundle mean i don't need extra ram..?

Nah, couldn't care less about appearance and stuff like that.

You get way more for your money with a 3.5 inch drive, as they're not only faster in most cases, they're also cheaper in terms of pence per gigabyte. If you're going for a desktop build, always get 3.5 inch except for the ssd.

You don't need water Cooling Chris lol The only time you'll really need it would be if you had a massively over clocked setup.

Just noticed that you mentioned the OCZ failure rates in your first reply, sorry Scott, missed that!

I think i'm almost decided on a spec, could somebody recommend a decent supplier?

Ebuyer are good, though I ordered a lot from amazon with my build.

Dabbs outlet on ebay were very good for me.

RE: Build me a new computer. - Poodle - 28-02-2013

Ok thanks, will have a look now.

RE: Build me a new computer. - Poodle - 28-02-2013

Am i right in thinking CPU coolers rated for am3 won't fit am3+..?

RE: Build me a new computer. - Dum-Dum - 28-02-2013

Im pretty sure they do fit but dont quote me on that

RE: Build me a new computer. - Fooby - 28-02-2013

Rated, meh

Its about making sure it fits the socket.

RE: Build me a new computer. - Poodle - 28-02-2013

I don't understand the difference? It says am2, am2+, am3. Others say am2, am2+, am3, am3+, hence i'm assuming if it doesn't specify it doesn't fit...

Do power supplies generally come with cabling included, or am i going to need to feck around individually buying the required cables?

While i would love to take your advice and go intel, it destroys my budget, so AMD it is. What i've got so far:

Asus M5A78L-M (760g chipset) matx mb
AMD FX-4 4100 black edition cpu
2 x 4gb Corsair 1600mhz XMS3 ram
Samsung 840 ssd 120gb
WD caviar green hdd 1tb
Corsair 430w CXM psu

The case i've specced is a good price, but mentions bottom PSU placement, how likely am i to find that a problem?

Ah but in all fairness, porn is better on a bigger screen!

What will you be using it for mainly? Spend another £5-10 and get a 1TB drive instead of the 500GB, it's way better for your money. You can pick up a 3TB drive for £90 these days so if you can put up the extra £40 you'll be way better off!

Oh and although Razer make shiny products, you can do a lot better for your money for keyboards and gaming mice. Corsair and Logitech are two good brands to check out Smile
