Chris.

Havent spoke to him regarding the subject, nothing i can do anyway, they wont get here any quicker if i go and moan, so i dont see the point sadly :/

RE: Hunter continued with a td04! - Matt - 12-07-2013

That's awesome! Get the rods in and it will be sweet! Big Grin

RE: Hunter continued with a td04! - Tom - 12-07-2013

Well the only people that i know have broke hdi rods are the likes of Darren and Dave and im not going to be tuning to the lengths they are so im pretty confident the engine will be reliable now! Especially with the rebuilt head Smile

unfortunately it's more than just rods which let go when you shit bits Sad

But i'm sure you're replacing bearings etc. whilst you're under there ThumbsUp

Nope i cant think of anything else... Like f*ck am i, if i had the cash its common sense to do it, but as long as the engine didnt die from bottom end failure they will be reused, i cant see it being an issue.

Crank failure
Bearings
gudgeon pins
poor surfaces
crank failure
head/valve/cam failure
EGT melting

many things contribute to shitting engines

for around £30 i'd be inclined in changing them ThumbsUp

but as you said, it 'may' not be an issue Smile

Crank failure so bad you list it twice? Tongue

Around 30 quid to change them? Heh...ohh nooo, putting new bigs / mains / seals in the bottom end of a motor is gunna cost alot more than 30 quid.

Provided the bearings are still good, be fine for your purpose.

Hunter continued with a td04! - Frosty - 12-07-2013

Big end shells for mine cost 84 quid

RE: Hunter continued with a td04! - Tom - 12-07-2013

If they were 30quid i would be changing them but they're alot more than that lol, like darren says as long as they're in good shape it'll make no odds.

In other news just heard from the machine shop and my head is all sorted and ready for me to collect! Heading down there now. Just need to wait for the rods now Sad

RE: Hunter continued with a td04! - Tom - 15-07-2013

Right the rods shown up today hooray.

Spent a few more hours on the car, what a f*cking faff to get the sump off! All the bolts full of underseal, then you have to take off the power steering pump and the alternator then the dumb bracket that holds them both to the block. Not to mention all 23 bolts that hold the sump on! :/ But i got it off and rubbed the lips off all the bores then had to come home because i had no way of getting home later which sucks, f*cking hate having to keep going to work inbetween trying to fix the car!

That is all so far!

RE: Hunter continued with a td04! - Tom - 16-07-2013

Started work at 4am this morning so progress was slow again today, got the hdi rods in though! The rods that came out looked no different but they wernt stamped DW10 so i guess they were XUD? Pic.

RE: Hunter continued with a td04! - Frosty - 17-07-2013

Glad to see its going back together. When do you think it will be up and running?

RE: Hunter continued with a td04! - mr_fish - 18-07-2013

getting there! video of the first start Smile

RE: Hunter continued with a td04! - Tom - 18-07-2013

Pretty much done now. Sadly dont have time to finish today and my battery is being a letdown so it hasnt started yet but i timed it up right and we got fuel and shut loads of compression so im not exactly worried Smile tomorrow is the day!

RE: Hunter continued with a td04! - AdamInNi - 20-07-2013

What he said!!

RE: Hunter continued with a td04! - Tom - 21-07-2013

Wow people that want updates! Cheers guysHeart

Right was having some issues with the timing, so Darren came out and had a look, he literally just hit the belt and it went on fine lol, then he identified a stuck injector and fixed that aswell, real hero! Wish i took some pictures of him stripping the injector, we used an unmounted vice turned upright mounted in between some pit boards with both of us standing on it to hold it in!

So now its running well except for i have no boost but i think i know what that one is.

Heater matrix is also f*cked so im going to bypass that for now, not like i need it, done a whole winter without heat before so i think i can manage the weather we have now!

RE: Hunter continued with a td04! - AdamInNi - 21-07-2013

Don't worry about that heater matrix, race cars don't need heat Wink

RE: Hunter continued with a td04! - Tom - 21-07-2013

Made me a matrix by pass pipe! Wink

Oh and i paid, 1 great british pound! Oyeh Big Grin

RE: Hunter continued with a td04! - AdamInNi - 23-07-2013

Yaaaay, boost! and for a quid? bargin Wink

RE: Hunter continued with a td04! - Frosty - 23-07-2013

You got them fitted?

RE: Hunter continued with a td04! - Tom - 23-07-2013

Yerp, spent literally 3 hours in the scrapyard battling to get them out, back to my own car half hour at most :p They are pretty cool, even if they are just bolts lol

RE: Hunter continued with a td04! - Tom - 26-07-2013

Found the source of my boost issues:

The actuator quite literally, fell off.

Quickly fixed that though!

Lol, bodgetacular.

RE: Hunter continued with a td04! - Chris_90 - 27-07-2013

surely that zip tie aint gonna hold 20-30psi??

RE: Hunter continued with a td04! - martyn92 - 27-07-2013

Be interesting to see how long that holds for :p

RE: Hunter continued with a td04! - Tom - 27-07-2013

The tie wont snap, it'll melt then um yeah snap lol, im also keen to see how long it lasts haha

Was just a quick fix there and then, if i had a welder i would of just put a couple of tacks on it but i didnt so i had to improvise! Still holding thiugh!

RE: Hunter continued with a td04! - Piggy - 27-07-2013

that will melt so fast!
