quick shitroen bx xud engine q.
#1
I have found a citroen bx xud9 engine from an m-reg, its a 1.9 td but has a pulley for the vucuum stuff on the right of the head. Is this swapable/useable? I'm guessing this is a very early xud9?

You sure it's an XUD9? I thought the BX only got the XUD7...

Oh, and don't pull it out, save the BX, fecking awesome cars!

Sounds like its an XUD7 to me to, same engine and vac setup that my 205 had. Check the engine code on the plate near the oil filter, I think my 205 was an A8b, as opposed to the xud9/306 variant which is D8b

Dan, Liam, you may have saved me a big headache and some fuel. Thank you. I'll put up a few pics in a sec, i haven't bought it yet. Guy wanted £25 but i was a bit weary with the old skl vac pulley and it looks a bit odd too with the pipe arrangements..

Well its got an xud9 fuel filter housing, xud7's have a seperate unit off the block. And it also has a tmic inlet, my xud7 had no intercooler and therefore a different manifold. I'd actually be inclined to say that's an xud9, just with the older crapper vac pump arrangement. Engine code would tell all though Smile

Mmh, i don't suppose there was a 1.8td? in the bx?

It's in Gloucester so i'll wait back to see if he can provide a code first.

They're almost all 1.8 TD XUD7s... That's because they're 1768cc or something like that...

Classed as a 1.8, same as the TU5s are classed as a 1.6...

Ah yes, gotcha! So BXs never came with an xud9??

I'd say it's a 9 as everything on it bar the vac pulley is the same, looks totally different to the 7 in my garage parts wise.

That's because it's an XUD7TE... It's the Turbo Intercooled XUD7, afaik the XUD9 never came with the belt driven vac pump... Also early XUD9s almost always came with a Bosch VE, that's got a CAV which suggests to me it's an old XUD7, with the 405 style filter housing.

I may be wrong though...

You can see if is xud 7 or 9.
You should have some inscription like "7TE" or "9TE" in engine block on the back side near the turbo like this:

Thanks all, i've asked the seller to try locate the engine code tag but i have had no reply yet.

Could well be a case of him having bought the wrong engine replacement for his xud9 405. Now trying to get rid.. Swapping the filter housing wouldn't take long?

Psamk1, i'll email that pic to him. Cheers.

The BXs came with XUD7, XUD7T AND XUD9, in more detail:

From 1984 to 1986
- XUD7 - 60hp
- XUD9 - 64hp

In 1987
- XUD7 - 60hp,
- XUD9 - 64hp
- XUD9 - 71hp

From 1988 to 1992
- XUD7 - 60hp,
- XUD7T - 90hp
- XUD9 - 71hp

From 1993 to 1994
- XUD7 - 60hp
- XUD7T - 90hp
- XUD9 - 71hp
- XUD9 - 65hp

The XUD7T engines are great, they can achieve more hp than xud9t may be due compression which is higher and maybe valve timing...
