Cone filter?
#1
Thinking of designing and building a cold air intake for my 306 hdi. Just wondering whether these cars suffer maf issues when they have a cone air filter fitted? And if there are any certain ones that I could get that wont ruin the MAF?

Its mostly just for the deeper noise tbf that I want it but if I do it then I will do a proper cold air feed some how as well Smile

Oiled filters (eg K&N) can cause issues with the MAF as far as I know, although I've no direct experience.

The standard filter setup is a cold air intake though, so I don't personally see the point replacing it unless you need to because you want to go Stage 2 and can't route the pipework with the airbox in place. If anything, a typical air filter cone on the end of the MAF will just suck in warm air.

Yeah I just like the rumbly noise and the turbo noise. Would try and make a cold air intake if possible as well Smile

There is a thread about hdi air filters. Loads of tests done on a rolling road and either the stock filter was better or made no real difference.

S2000 oem filter with the standard cold air feed would do the trick. Alternatively you could smooth the inside of your standard airbox, that would help amplify the noise.

The only un-oiled cone filter I know to is the ram air kit. £46 on ebay iirc, I have one due to intercooler pipes but tbh I plan on going back to an airbox or make a heatshield for this one.

Pipercross also make non-oiled filters, but RamAir are cheaper (and slightly worse quality).
