Door Card removal / Crossover install
#1
im installing some "Vibe EDGE ED306" crossovers (linky.. http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/edge-street-ed306.html)
before installing these ive mounted the tweeters in a direct replacement for standard ones

so a before shot..

start by popping off the cover and unscrewing using a T25 Torx the 4 speaker screws
[Image: IMG_20120402_134214.jpg]

next, using a flathead screwdriver, remove the window switch and disconnecting
[Image: IMG_20120402_125153.jpg]

Once removed there should be a T30 Torx behind to remove
[Image: IMG_20120402_125502.jpg]

2 more T30 to remove, one found behind a rubber bung
[Image: IMG_20120402_125520.jpg][Image: IMG_20120402_125406.jpg]

remove the door handle surround trim (already removed in my pics)
then get in between the card and the door metal and prize it all apart, theres quite a few clips running the perimeter of the door card
[Image: IMG_20120402_125618.jpg]
pull away from the bottom like so..
then lift up to remove

and in true haynes style....refit is opposite to removal

Speakers

mine came with a small crossover unit to be put behind somewhere, using the double sided sticky pad provided i wedged mine up here
[Image: IMG_20120402_130553.jpg]
and connected to the speaker wires
[Image: IMG_20120402_130228.jpg]
and connected one of the feeds to the door speakers and the other to the tweeters
[Image: IMG_20120402_132034.jpg]
wedged all the wires back in the whole and put it all back together Big Grin

Anyone know the part code for the clip things which go into those holes? Mine are buggered and come un-popped every single day when you pull the door closed.

Can you still put the speaker cover over the speaker once you have the Edge one fitted?

I have some in the garage somewhere but iirc they don't quite fit. They pop out quite easily but if you get a bit of blue tac or something.in the hole then it.should be fine

The fli components are a good fit for same ish money

I've just brought myself some of the Edge ones, and I want to keep them covered, but I was told that it's hard to find some speakers that do fit the 306's

Yeah because they have over shallow mounting depths

Like I say its probably doable but when I had mine on there they get knocked off easy
The fli (comp6 iirc) components fit alright

Thinking about it, my door cards have alot of the plastic cut away inside. But that shouldn't make a difference surley

how did you get the new tweeters to fit in the original tweeter bit?

I undone the old one taking out the 2 screws removing the tweeter. Putting the new one in then screwing the old screws 50% in and looping an elastic band round a few times.
Its held there for 2 years now
