The fan belt has been squeaking away since the day I bought this car, but its started getting a bit louder recently so thought it was time to take a look
(You cant hear it inside the car so has never bothered me before but needs putting right really)
Got both belts off and found that both the idlers, the tensioner and the waterpump are really really ruined, they only place they are fit for now is a Volkswagen factory.
So replacing them all, not an expense I planned on really but got the whole set new from a local place for about £100 (the water pump pushed the price up a bit)
I had a look at a BMW manual to try and work out if the large hex key on the tensioner is for loosening it off, but apparently not. The official BMW technique is a "robust screwdriver"

And yes, genuine FAG bearings.
